Those are great, although I've never tried the small ones. When I get the dosh I'm going to get a churchwarden stem from this place: 'Forever' Stems , they fit any Missouri Meerschaum pipe. Then I'll have myself a wee cobwarden.

Thanked: 31I just ordered a Missouri Merschaum with the vulcanite "forever stem". It should be here any day. I hadn't tried a cob until recently. My briar was needing a new stem. I picked up a cheap cob to pass the time while it was being repaired. I was surprised how cool and tasty the smoke was from the cob, so I ordered the higher quality Missouri Corn cob with the vulcanite stem.
The owner of Walker Briar Works, Dave, seems like a very nice guy. He answered an email I sent him within a couple of hours. He is also taking a look at some pics of my 30 year old Turkish Meerschaum that recently cracked. I'm hoping he can repair it as well. There don't seem to be a lot of "old school" pipe repair and resto guys around anymore. Dave said there's only about 10 or so "old guys" like him left in the states that really know what they're doing. My local shop here doesn't have anyone there who can repair or work on pipes. They just sell pipes and tobacco. I wonder who's gonna take up the art or repairing, making stems etc when these guys are gone...

Thanked: 31
I sent Dave pics last night. I'll let you know what I hear from him and how he proceeds. One pipe shop owner told me that super glue was the only thing he knew of that would stop cracks from growing in meer (as long as they are on the outside of the pipe, as mine are). I used super glue for now and it did stop the cracks from getting worse, though it's not the best looking fix.
My concern is more with the quality of the smoke than the looks. After 30 years with this pipe, I know it well and enjoy the smoke. I hope Dave at Walker Briar doesn't declare it a goner.
The tricky situation with my meer is where it's cracked--where the stem sleeve screws into the bowl. The sleeve no longer screws in tight so I'm not smoking the pipe until someone more skilled than me can work some magic on it.
I'll let you know how it goes...

Thanked: 11853 mile run, followed by a bowl of Hearth and Home Stogie in a Kaywoodie Mandarin
Cooler Fall weather seems to be spawning the Latakia jones. Regreatably, I have nothing on hand that contains Latakia. Perhaps and early morning Billy Budd procurement is in order. Just enough time for a shower and a touch of Maker's Mark before dinner. Cheers fellas! The older I get, the better I was

Thanked: 198i tried something tonight that might be a little different, i dont know, i shaved off some 3p, put it in the bottom, then rubbed out a flake and loaded it on top, i know thats alot of vitamin N, but it sure is tasty, and the advantage i find is that it last a lot longer that way. maybe im just nuts that way.
