Thread: Pipe of the Day

Most of mine were tasting pretty sour. I ran a pipe cleaner dipped in booze down the stem of the one in the picture and that usually does the trick, but drawing through it with no tobacco still tasted foul this time. This wasn't the worst one either.

I use either sea or mountain salt because they are much coarser. Plug the stem with pipe cleaner, add salt to the bowl and fill with vodka.
Let it sit until it's totally dry. Usually takes few days.
Then take the salt oot and clean the bowl and stem with clean pipe cleaners. Let the bowl sit for another day or two to vent.

Should it happen that quick? I've never done it before, so I'm thinking maybe I just need to clean them more often.

Yes, it looks normal to me. But I would also follow the directions others have written out.

I've had some estate pipes that were so heavily ghosted they needed several rounds of salt and then activated charcoal in an oven to get the taste out. Just thinking about it makes me dislike cherry. They smoke great now, so waiting too long might make the cleaning more laborious, but not impossible.

Thanks for the advice gents. I'm yet to smoke any of my pipes since cleaning them as I'm still waiting on my orders. I've been checking the post box every couple of hours! They don't have any taste when I draw through them now which I'm quite happy about, and I'm sure they'll be completely dry. It's been two days already.

The tobaccos I have on order are peterson's perfect plug, GH black irish XXX, GQ's burper kake and soft scotch, jack knife plug, gauntley's celtic twilight and some raw perique. Also got another pipe on the way.
