Surprised anyone noticed that, I think I've had it since about 1978. I like having it on my bench just because it's been with me so long.

I may just not be luck or it might be the drilling or briar or me smoking them like an animal but better be safe than sorry. i have only had this happen to me with those pipes and it was the same spot so maybe force yourself to smoke cool tobaccos for break in, orientals are recommended as they cake rapidly and of course mind the heat and smoke slowly. Something I admit am not always too good at doing. Beauty of pipe good luck with it.

Randy Wiley, there is a name that goes way back. I've had a couple of his pipes over the years and wish I'd have kept them. A world class pipe maker but doesn't charge an arm and a leg.

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Well he's still making them and he ain't getting any younger hehe. Most of his models new run between 150 and 200. The guy at the shop had a wall of em right next to the ferdowns. It almost killed me not to buy a ferndown silver spigot Rhodesian but I'm glad I resisted and bought something local.
