Ive notice that Samuel Gawith has difeerncess in eery box to the color , misture and a bit of the taste Ive smoked over 100 boxes of SG flakes and they came aways wet They need druyng and theyre tobaccos burn hardly So My recipe for best taste for FVF and Best Brown is - make them very fine and loose ribons and put them on a piece of paper make the paper a very hot from the bottom side with a lighter to make it absorb fro the moisture and leave it for half an hour to breathe a bit
Also you can pack the pipe loose , light it and leave it for a 20 minutes After the taste and moisture content are diferent
About the FVF i like peterson Perfct Plug better
Just my 2 cents - greetings Rusen

A Bretton Hall as I picked it up today.

I know nothing about the brand and will have to look it up.

It looks like nice grain but I will know after I clean it up some!Name: 3.jpg

Today's enjoyment was Aperitif in my Savinelli Miele 128. I really enjoy this blend.

Here is a Peterson's 'System' pipe I unwisely traded off to someone for another pipe. Can't recall which, but I hope it was worth it, cause I miss this little feller. He is flanked by a Plisson HMW and an early Merkur IIRC. This is an old SOTD photo.

    hi again guys,
i want to talk about some things i enjoy the most about smoking ,for example when i finish your pipe the smell of tobacco still remains in my moustache and it's very pleasant or adding to the smoking something to drink ;for example vino, some delicious italian wine that is simply perfect with a smoke.( the perks of living in italy is that 18 bottles of good wine only cost near 40€)
and what about you? what do you enjoy to do when you're smoking?

I like to do nothing else when I smoke a pipe unless you count thinking as an activity!

How is the cost of tobacco in Italy?

    well,too high in my opinion.
for instance i see that online navy flake cost 17€ when here at the tobacconist it costs 22€
but this wouldn't be a problem if only we could order it online, but we can't. it's illegal😞

Some days I scour the web for information on the things I enjoy. On the subject of pipes and getting to know what makes a pipe good or not so good. I came across a little interview with a guy many consider one of the contemporary adepts of the craft. Here are his thought on the question of what makes a pipe good.

So if you enjoyed that conversation about what qualities a pipe should have at a minimum for a desirable purchase, I decided to do a little test. I went and did a little shopping at my local B&M to see what sort of inexpensive pipe I could get that satisfied the criteria of Mr. Cooke.
After looking at some Peterson's with high draft holes and a Savinelli tortuga which had the hole slightly off center a couple of Nordings with bad stem fits. I found a rather small and light little Canadian model 607 French Made by Wessex that had everything going for it minus a meaty bowl, but 49 bucks really? Close enough I'll take it. The picture represents its inaugural smoke. I chose the very Oriental forward Dunhill Durbar to kick off the cake building process and am so far very happy with its smoking characteristics. Over time it will improve but even now I got minimal moisture issues and maybe used the pipe cleaner that fit perfectly only near the end. Op success a good smoker found.

    Happy Puffing

Default Post Them If You've Got Them .......... Keep POTD Alive !

The late Bill Taylor, of Ashton Pipes, used to stamp first quality pipes 'Taylor Made' when they were gifts to individuals. Later on he used the stamp for seconds that were cheaper than the first quality pipes. The ELX bulldog on the left is of the former variety, and the Canadian on the right of the latter. Both great smokers.
