I hope I don't get into trouble if I digress here but I found a can of Cope from Jul 17 2011 and it holds 83 pennies.
Then a can from mexico marked 31/7 that holds 48....
It would have been around 1980 that I had to save pennies to buy another can.
I opened my jar of ends of cans to have a small church warden tonight. My Zippo was good for half a light and by the time I refilled it the pipe was going good anyway.
Not a bad smoke but I will have at the most only 1 1/2 bowls of that mixture ever again!

Still lucky to get two bowls a day down here. This mornings was Bayou Morning in a KKK Castello Castello 25.

I hadn't bought a pipe in a dog's age, and saw this on the bay and couldn't resist. It is a 2K Castello Sea Rock. In smooth pieces the letter designations denote grain quality. In rough (sandblast or rusticated) pieces they denote size. So I thought this was a much smaller pipe than it turned out to be. An SS-75 with a reg. # and pearlized translucent stem in like new condition.

So I was doing an ebay search for 'Kaywoodie.' This is a brand that began their 'drinkless' system in the early 1930s and almost always have aluminum 'plumbing' in the stem/mortise. I can't handle that, but fortunately they made a limited number of push tenon pipes. I have 4 or 5 old Kaywoodie Matched Grain, and a Super Grain with the push tenon.
I recalled reading articles in Pipes & Tobacco magazine on the 'new' Kaywoodie pipes. Bill Feuerbach, the president of the company, had begun a new line of push tenon pipes. I was tempted but didn't bite at the time. So I see a listing for two push tenons, one dated 2007, and the other a Christmas pipe. The photo makes the smooth piece look larger than the poker, but it is actually smaller. Both comfortable to hold in the teeth hands free.
Got 'em for $62 + shipping. They arrived today, and both are good smokes.

I had a cob of Meatpie on the way to work with my bees tonight and a small churchwarden of it on the way home.
I like the churchwarden while driving because being longer it is easier to light. 3/4 done and going out and i was going to tap it out on the side mirror. Traffic started to happen so I didn't tap it and held it out for a few seconds.
Hey.... It is a heck of a lot easier to relight it at 55 mph than to try the zippo.
I will have to try this, on purpose, again!

Talk about RAD, or HAD .......... PAD is just as bad if not worse. Hadn't bought a pipe in 10 years and bought 4 in the past week. Castello K-32 Sea Rock with pearlized stem like the KK 75 I just got only nice and small. Came today from an antique dealer.
Filthy and took a mess of pipe cleaners and Everclear to fix that. Did something I almost never do, smoked it twice in one day! I usually let them rest for at least a few days if not weeks.

Two very nice Castello's JimmyHAD, enjoyed looking at them while smoking some Exclusive in a Natural Vergin G Canadian filled with Exclusive. In my mind, nothing beats an old well smoked Castello.
