    My local prices:

(add 13% sales tax to these)
    Brigham (Canadian brand) 50g pouch - $18
    Mac Baren GE 50g pouch - $20
    SG 50g tins - $24
I've also seen some 100g tins that are $54, but I usually just put them right back on the shelf.

I try to support my local guy with the occasional purchase, but the prices are killer compared to online.

I'm really hating the greedy politicians in this country right now! Our tobacco and alcohol taxes increase evey six months automatically, regardless of CPI or any other of those fancy financial considerations. Very annoying really.

I've very fortunate to currently be living is Missouri, there the tobac taxes are low. Being from Illinois I feel your pain. A $4 pouch of Carter hall jumped to over $8. There cigs and cigars are taxed so heavily that it almost doubles their prices (cigs are taxed so much it does and then some). I thank my lucky stars, and I'd add a saint of tobac if I knew of on, That I can walk into nearly any tobacco store and pick up Carter hall and prince Albert for give or take $4-5 a pouch. While they're no top shelf gourmet tin but they're a darn good smoke that I find myself reaching for more than any of my more expensive blends (and that's with a total of 2 regulars and 2 occasionals plus the CH and PA). Any oF our European or Australian members tried them?

Can't say that I've even seen any CH or PA. Never ran across it in any of the tobacco outlets that I've been to here in Oz anyway. Can't remember if I saw it or not when I was in the states, but then, when I was there I had a whole heap of duty free tobacco from Oz (Port Royal Rum and Wine. My favourite 'rollie' tobacco.). And when I ran out of that I just bought what I thought I knew would be found anywhere, Marlborough. I didn't count on my accent making it so damned difficult to be understood at a Texan Wal-Mart though . There's a funny story for another day.

So there I was, out on the lanai (POTD Billy Budd in an Edward's Burl Cut) when suddenly I spotted something moving across the street. "Holy S#*t!" says I, "That's a gator" I strolled over to investigate and there he was soaking up the morning sun. As a kid I used to see them quite frequently but I've not seen one in quite a while. Just a young fella I'd say probably no more than 4-5 ft. long but pretty cool just the same.

Old GI, I know what you mean. I was playing golf a few weeks back and saw this guy sunning near the 17th green. Played that hole fairly quickly.

No gators sighted in my neck of the woods.

Relaxing this evening with an old Bari pipe and some Cornell & Diehl "Irish Blessing."

Went home this weekend to see some family graduate. No pipe today as I spend a good portion holding a 5 month old cousin of a friend. Apparently we look alike enough to shock the friend's mom when she came home (the friend is an ex-girlfriend whom I'm still good friends with and I'm 19), giving us a good laugh. We also found out that me singing "I hung my head" and "don't take your guns to town" by Johnny Cash is an easy way to put infants to sleep.
