I grew up with rock and roll, eight track tapes and the volume of everything at full blast. Now a days about all I listen to is the ringing in my ears. Adults warned that would happen.

But they also warned that masturbation would cause you to go blind. But hey, I can still see with glasses. I order large print books because I want to, not because I need to!

I think it is just too cool to be coincidence that the time at which most of us start not hear so well is the same time that we begin to care very little about what other people say anyway. I can still hear F-4's running from 20 odd years ago. Back then if you used ear protection...well, it wasn't considered very manly. My first boss told me "Boy, that's the sound of freedom and you should enjoy it to the fullest or find another line of work" unfortunately I took his advice and enjoyed the sound of freedom for many, many years after that (had to, wasn't fit for any other kind of work and likely still am not, but I can fake it pretty good.)

PS: Along with the standard cautionary tale about self abuse, my old man told me that if I didn't quit dipping Copenhagen my face would fall of before I was 30. It wasn't true my face is still attached but emphasyma took him a number of years ago.
