Macyn Taylor playing Leo Kottke's "The Fisherman" on a Petros guitar. The last time I saw Leo Kottke play he told a short story (as he often does) about this song. He said it was written for his grandmother who he could remember going fishing with when he was a child. He said she was the angriest fisherman/woman he'd ever seen in his life, cussing and swearing, yelling at the fish.

Back in the late '70's when CB radio was all the craze I was at an out of town get together/camp out and the sponsering group had a live band of some fairly young kids and they were pretty much playing 'elevator music' and no one was dancing.
I went up to them and asked if they knew any other kind of music and they said that they were used to playing in cocktail lounges but did know other music. So I asked if they knew 'Wipeout' and they 'kind of knew it' but the drummer said 'OH YEA! I know that one. So that was the next song and to say it was a huge success would have been an understatement. I think the next song was Louie Louie.
Anyway for those days gone by here's a couple of versions of Wipeout/the studio record and fairly recently.
I hope all will enjoy.

My father, brother and I went to the Dead & Company in Alpine Valley. It was the first time my brother and I saw the Dead in concert and it was my father's 47th anniversary to his first Dead show. I may not like John Mayer's(sp?) music, but he plays one mean guitar.
Happy Birthday today to Linda Ronstadt.
I've been a lifelong fan. She had everything a singer needs ... in spades! From the early days...

My "like" is not strong enough for that tune, cudarunner! Good old fashioned R&R, with Keith Richards too!
Great stuff!!!
Speaking of Rock and Roll Music, here's one from the same gig. Chuck with the late Etta James.
Keith Richards organized the event and was the musical director.

Your post inspired me to pull this wonderful artist up from my music files to listen to while I'm cooking and cleaning.
I find her voice 'haunting' yet beautiful. And this is a wonderful 'story' that she sings.
I have no idea why the words and lips don't match up
With that said I hope all will enjoy!

Some Rolling Stones...think we live in troubled or strange times now? Some wild and crazy events were going in 1969, and the 60's in general when this classic was released.

This Moment I am listening to my Rott whine to go on his perimeter run, boy does he love that, no fences, just his trail, doing his job. Music to my ears.
Indeed,
I can clearly remember my Dad's face turn to stone when the News on TV broke into regular programming with updates on the Cuban Missile crisis. I was 13 years old, it it was the first time I remember becoming aware of world events. My Mother also came into the room with a concerned look to hear the news. I think the looks on their faces made much more of an impression on me than the news on the TV. It was the awakening of my realization that we could all be snuffed out in an instant with no warning.
BTW ... Great tune!
My dad was torn up when 9/11 happened. Being a WWII veteran, he was really worried about how insane some people in this world has gotten. He passed away the following year & I know he worried about what will happen in the future..............
What a crazy world we live in!
I came across this & it had me rolling on the floor laughing so hard.................

Here's a tune I listen to often.. As an aside, when Brian Epstein was shopping The Beatles around for a record contract, it was between the Tremeloes and The Beatles who would be signed .. In one of the greatest blunders of all time, Decca Records chose The Tremeloes over The Beatles. The Tremeloes were a great band, no doubt, but as history has proven, they were NOT The Beatles.
Anyway, this clip brings back lots of memories for me. I lived in a fringed jacket like the Bass player wears for years on end!
