Me too, except I ordered from Amazon. I got the Lamy Safari, a converter, and a bottle of Noodler's Heart of Darkness ink. The ink came with a free transparent fountain pen. I've been using a fountain pen for about two weeks now in work, and I'm hooked. I've tried all kinds of gel, rollerball, etc..and always, always, have problems with them. I picked up a fountain pen at Walgreens several weeks ago to check it out, suprisingly, The Walgreens pen works great...
I'm currently looking at a Pelikan 405, nice looking pen, and from what I've read, a good one...Last edited by zib; 12-26-2010 at 03:59 PM. Reason: grammar...

Received my Noodlers Heart of Darkness with free pen.
It started skipping so I asked in the fountainpen network, The Fountain Pen Network
They advised soaking the pen in soapy water. so I did that, then soaked in rinse, now it works great!! no skipping at all.
I advice to anyone that wants to trial fountain pen to get the Noodlers ink with the free pen.
Enjoy!!

I got mine the other day too. Noodlers Heart of Darkness with the free pen. It took a bit for me to realize that the extra thingy is a rollerball tip, you can use either or. I was lucky, My transparent Noodler's pen worked great out of the box. As a matter of fact, I haven't fired up my Lamy Safari yet...
Still eyeing the Pellikan 405.....Damm these AD's.....We have assumed control !

Yup, I bought the Heart of Darkness with the free pen also, hands down beats any pen I've known, right out of the box. I could not however get the rollerball tip to work so I ditched it. So far I have HoD, Black Swan, El'Lawrence, and Whaler's ink. Noodler's isn't perfect but I dig their style and sense of humor.
I've also taken to working on my penmanship, these pens and ink make me want to have great looking handwriting.
Let me know how your Safari treats you. Did you go for fine, medium nib?

For you guys who are actually able to use a fountain pen at work I'm really jealous. When I worked I always carried one and always had a dozen or more but just about everything was done on a computer. About the only time I was able to use it was to sign something or take notes at a meeting.
I think Waterman makes the best pens. The perfect combination of smoothness and a hint of scratchiness as you write. Their ideal nib is super. That and some Diamine ink-royal blue. Now that's pen heaven. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I just ordered a bottle of "Black Swan in Austrailian Roses" (my daughters gift to me ) and can't wait for it to come in
Here is my Pilot Custom 74 Demo w/Fine nib, currently has Mont Blonc Sepia ink in it. Nice desk pen, I don't like taking removable top pens out into the world, I use a Pilot Vanishing point for an EDC pen

I thought I'd like fine nibs but the sailor i bought is too fine. I'm enjoying dumping all kinds of wet ink with the thicker nibs.
