This is my personal pref obviously as there have been many many (x 1000) great songs played with pauls thru marshalls, but for me when playing, i always find that tone a little flubby.. thats down to me as a player though and my lack of ability.
Nonsense... I'm a drummer... My leanings toward the Pauls are only based on what was being blasted into my head from the floor monitors nestled under my snare and toms. I survived many guitarists. My personal favorites were those that played Gibsons into Marshalls. Fenders into Peavees where recipies for nosebleeds. My floor monitors, and my ears, favored the deeper tones. I'm afraid I can still pick out those tones - those only tones my ears still receive over the tinitus - to this day.

I have played with 'talented' Fender owners who upon listening to my pleas, made slight adjustments to the front controls and the 'foot stack'... and made those vintage Fenders growl like lions.

The vai/satriani/malmsteen cover is good, but i think malmsteen always over plays.. There was something vicseral about hendrix that noone has replicated since, that guitar was screaming like it was alive. hmm, actually, don't flame but prince comes close. everyone always overlooks him. I can play those note progressions but it just doesn't and won't ever sound like jimi
Drop a hit of microdot, turn the pre-amp up to 11 the master to 9 and use the rear pickup.

On the subject of the virtuosos.. here's a tune that doesn't suck. It's steve vai doing the unusual thing of playing for the tune instead of being a technical wizard, and you know what..? he's very very very good

his inner hendrix is coming out
    Yes... he's very good.

Here's something that's not been mentioned and like Belushi... Freddy could have given us so much more... I'd have survived his feathers and such so long as he kept belting them out... but... Noooooo!

As we honor the technician's... the mechanics... the tool makers...

Let's not forget the vocalists... the leaders... the visionarys... the little people that pulled themselves up by their bootstraps and kicked us all in our butts.

Queen was indeed a great band and Freddie Mercury was a beast of a lead singer. Perhaps one of the most profoundly idiotic thoughts that ever ran through my mind was when I first heard he had died of aids. Voice in my head says, "AIDS!!?? How did that happen, Freddie's not even gay....well, wait a minute...that would explain a number of things (i.e. feather boas, name of his band, etc.)" From that day to this, I still marvel at how stupid that thought was and the fact that it never occurred to me he was gay. But hey, I was young at the time.

But alas, I do digress, I find it utterly amazing that 32 posts in, these guys have still not appeared:
    YouTube - ‪Rolling Stones - Beast Of Burden - Live '81 Hampton‬‏

Lest we forget, the Stones ARE the officially band of McLeary's (see 4:08) Warning for colorful language and probably offensive content

if we're gona do stones we have to do ollllld stones

Love the stones but they just don't get this tune right live, so here's the studio version.

By the way if anyone has this on vinyl please put on and turn it up, because thats the only way you get the real power of it

as for queen... i think one vision inspired me to pick up the guitar. That's before i realised there was 70's queen so...

I had four hours off between classes today. So I went downstairs to Starbucks (Because they have a comfortable lounge), sat myself in a comfy chair and had a "When music didn't suck" concert.

    Thanks for the great music.

Guys, I started this thread, but you've made it the interesting and entertaining (to me anyway) thread that it is, Please continue to put "music that doesn't suck" here, so that me may get thru the days of Suck Idol, Suck Factor, So you think you can Suck?, and Sucking with the stars with some semblence of taste and sanity..

Well I'll include some sublime, emotional blues guitar from the king of British Blues then

    I'll just include this superb quote because it makes me smile;
"Mike Vernon, a producer at Decca recalls Peter's debut with the Bluesbreaker:
As the band walked in the studio I noticed an amplifier which I never saw before, so I said to John Mayall, "Where's Eric Clapton?" Mayall answered, "He's not with us anymore, he left us a few weeks ago." I was in a shock of state (sic) but Mayall said, "Don't worry, we got someone better." I said, "Wait a minute, hang on a second, this is ridiculous. You've got someone better??? Than Eric Clapton???" John said, "He might not be better now, but you wait, in a couple of years he's going to be the best." Then he introduced me to Peter Green."

AC/DC was my first concert! Needless to say, they set the bar very high indeed.

Another band to check out is The Black Keys. They're a duo with a nice blues-influenced sound and they rock hard. I also grew up 45 minutes from their hometown, Akron, OH so that helps.

    Thanks for starting this thread!
