don't know if we posted it up but this film was largely responsible for me getting into bluegrass/delta blues etc etc

cohen brothers films are hit or miss for me, but i just couldn't not love a retelling of the odyssey in the deep south

Great Movie, Great Tune. I was just thinking how this thread started out at AC/DC and pretty much went all over the place and now we're in the hillbilly music portion of the thread. Kind of reminds me of putting my MP-3 player on random, there's literally all kinds of stuff there and you just don't know what wild turn the music will take at any given moment.

This is Alison Kraus doing her version of an old Keith Whitley song. She's an amazing singer and I would rate this version really competitive to the original

Apparently Alison dabbles in a bit of fiddling herself. The introductions up front are a bit verbous but at about 2:40 they just commence to gettin' after it

And great googly moogly, talk about some kick ass hillbilly music. Earl Scruggs, Steve Martin, Vince Gill, Marty Stewart this stuff rocks! I'm actually amazed that it was on Letterman.

Yeah i heard steve martin had was in a band now and was playing this, It's great, people over here only really know him from his films, and don't realise he was one of the first comedians ever who played stadium gigs. That guitar player is a guy called albert lee, incredible player, famous for his chickin pickin, and from the uk too

and while we're on the subject of the guys other people rate as musicians but keep quiet about it themselves..

Jerry read does most of that guitar and banjo and guitar work himself

Back from work, and to change the direction of the thread again, i always like to listen to something pretty when i come home. This is an icelandic band called sigur ros. The bbc used this as the music in commercial for their wonderful planet earth series (thank you Mr Attenborough). found this on you tube

This dude took the idea one step further and did a music video for the whole song using clips form the series. Definitely definitely pretty.

OK, now for something totally different:

I heard about this performance this morning driving to work and couldn't wait to get home and check it out for myself. Now Lady Gaga, suffice to say, has never been one of my favorite performers. In fact, I've always kind of thought of her as your freak pop star that panders to young kids too consumed with the desire to be hip to worry about the actual quality of the music. Don't get me wrong, I still think she's a freak and I'm not likely to add her to my MP-3 player any time soon but this particular performance (minus the techno BS beat) is truly remarkable. I had no idea she could sing like this. There's kind of a female Billy Joel feeling to this. I like it alot:

This song was cut from the Blues Brothers soundtrack album because JLH was considered to be "too old and too black" by the record executives.

I have no freakin' idea how I have missed out on this thread!

    Leadbelly - AWESOME!

I have a fairly eclectic taste in music, and this thread has been quite entertaining, even enlightening, and in some cases nostalgic too.

I figure that it's only fair that I share a few things too.

    The Cramps -

    Wayne Hancock -

And for pure comedic enjoyment... Unknown Hinson

Thanks for letting me share a little of what I enjoy (without hi-jacking the thread and dumping some 1500 song playlist on you guys)
