Thanked: 46Yeah, RMS refers to Root Mean Square and is a way of calculating the equivalent DC heating value of an AC waveform. iow 200W RMS AC is the same heating value as 200W DC. When we talk about 240/415V AC (or 110/220V for the yanks) that's the RMS value. Peak voltage for 240V RMS is somewhere around 325V ... roughly.
My Motorola Defy ... I can navigate pages if I need to but it's not my first choice as a web browser by a long shot. Better than my old Nokia N95 though.

Well it happened.. I gave the 360 another go.. There was one of the new slimline ones on offer the other day, and had a bunch of games untouched from 3 years ago that i really should finish. That and GOW 3 was included. Just have to buy GOW 2 now. got a third of the wat thru 1 yesterday.
I'm not a traitor, any real FPS's/RTS's will still be bought and played on my PC including ME3, but there's some good console only titles out there i'd quite like to play.
Tell you what, i really noticed the difference for shooters yesterday picking up that joypad again. How does anyone manage to play competively with those things?
I'm also going back to play Ghost Recon Advanced warfighter 1 + 2 on it. Really liked those, a lot less in depth than the PC version, but still very very good.

Thanked: 1262I purchased Portal 2 yesterday. Steam has it on sale for $14.99 right now. It has been fun so far. I loved the first game.

I'm not incredibly competitive but I know a few people who turn up sensitivity on their controllers as well as get modded controllers or buy things to make the controllers a bit easier for FPS games: First Person Shooter Accessories

mmm i find it's not so much the sensitivity, it's the smoothness and precision of controllers, that and i think a hand controllling a mouse is way more accurate than a thumb on a joystick. In fact for certain games i'll still use the Dpad, like tekken, and i think driving games, although i can't say for sure on that one lol
thanks for the link though, checking that out now. If only you could get mouse and directional type pad thingys for xbox.
Edit: Interesting.. i may give those a go.. but i still think mouse and keyboard for FPS is king.Last edited by tekbow; 10-06-2011 at 07:37 PM.

I've spent enough time away from PC gaming that I'm generally faster and a bit more accurate with the thumbsticks now. However, the D-Pad on the 360 controller is crap. There was a special edition controller released in Japan with the newest street fighter (I think) that had a good D-pad on it.
This is also used a lot by the "hardcore" console folks: Buy Hori Pad EX Turbo (Blue) (Xbox360) - Play-Asia.com
Or if you just want a DIY D-pad fix there's this crazy idea: DIY Fix the d-pad on the Xbox 360 control pad (more than just sanding)

I see the difference there, an old style straight X rather than a circular pad, i did like those back in the day. I have an old wired 360 controller that i prefer to use and the wireless on for playing vs games with friends, you just don't run outta batteries

I used to mod 360 controllers (IE open them up and solder them), mostly for rapid fire purposes and the like. I'd highly recommend FPS Freeks, though, I can't imagine playing without them now. Basically they just make your control stick longer, but that increases the lever length (or whatever, I'm not a physicist) and allows you more finesse and accuracy at higher sensitivities.

Yeah that makes sense, will give them a try for sure, my current sensation with it is less freedom of movement, like the controller is "on rails", whereas with the mouse i can go wherever i want instantly if you know what i mean
