These days Rolex charges around $700 to do a service on a basic watch and that's with no parts needed except maybe seals. A daytona probably would cost a grand and if you need parts the price gets steep very fast.

Thanked: 2027Thats why you do not send rolex watches to rolex for factory service, are plenty of qualified watchmakers that will do the same job (warrented) for a third of what rolex charges.I just had my Omega speedmaster completly seviced,New seals crystal, pressor tested 300 bux,
Omega wanted $900CAUTION

I once had a Rolex Oyster perpetual in Stainless. It was a lovely watch . . . for about a year. After that, it would alternate between running fast and running slow. I sold it after a few years of this. Probably the worst watch I ever had . . .

These days I've become partial to Timex.
@ Orville: that's why I sent mine in, twice in fact. Mine gained no matter what. Was instructed to rest it on edge at night to correct and that didn't help. Beautiful watch but I off'd mine too.Shave the Lather...

The problem is, obtaining genuine parts is an issue. Rolex has a iron fist on distribution. My local guy who services Rolex had to get parts from an authorized guy in Germany. Also there are fewer and fewer competent watch repairers out there. If you take it into a local place unless you know the guy really well you may get back a watch that never runs good again.
Unfortunately, other outfits are copying Rolex and down the road you simply won't have a choice but to send the watch back to the manufacturer's station. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Admittedly I'm far from an expert on watches, I only know what I like...
...and I'm seriously digging my Delphin!

This might be sacrilege to some, but I picked up a Chinese made watch today and it is gorgeous. I'm a big fan of Swiss watches and do a lot of work for the Swiss companies. And in fact, this watch has a Swiss origin of sorts... But it's Chinese made, and they've done a great job (for a lower price-point watch). It's my favourite of the non-Swiss movements I've seen to date, and it has a good presence on the wrist.
It's the Seagull 1963 ST19 mechanical chronograph. It's a 21 jewel hand wound column-wheel chronograph movement, which is the resurrection of the movement developed in 1961 under project 304. Project 304 was a government-mandated development of chronographs for the People’s Liberation Army Air Force, based on the Venus Watch calibre 175, sold off by the Swiss company who owned it. The dial and hands are, in my eyes, stunning. Accuracy yet to be tested, but from what I've read it's quite reasonable.
