Thread: What types of watches do you like?

Let's switch gears for a moment, there are many fine watch manufacturers out there. However, if anyone, picked up a watch annual lately? Have you seen the prices have you seen the prices of some of these upper tier watches? I so watch manufactured by a company called DeWitt the watch was absolutely gorgeous. And then I looked at the price a mere $750,000 then I looked at some of the Zenith brand their top-of-the-line deify chronograph is in the same neighborhood at about $500,000, it must be nice to be able to go out and buy these. The frightening thing is that they're selling, must be nice.

For a thing which tells time? That is insane. I thought I had splurged when I dropped $250 on a new watch a couple of years ago.

Some people might think it is insane to use 750USD on a thing which shaves hair too. It all depends on your income, how much money you have in the bank and your hobbies.
If you have enough money then $750,000 doesn't matter.

I felt I splurged when I bought my Rolex Sea-Dweller in 1999, I can sell it for lots more now.

Well, I don't quite agree with you on that one
As far as I'm concerned, a watch is basically the only acceptable way for a man to wear jewelry, or luxury if you will.
That and a wedding band really. IMHO.
So, since I only tolerate that as jewelry on a guy, why not get something that will be with you for years to come, and that looks and feels a bit classy?
I've spent a fair bit on my watches, and have absolutely no remorse whatsoever

I agree with you on the jewerly aspect for guys. I too only wear a watch and my wedding band. I had my eye on several nice watches for awhile, but I guess I would rather spend the money on something else. I guess I was shocked to see watches in the six figure range.

I agree with you on this with one exception-Pinkie rings,I also have a thing for them, and limited release watches with the Valjoux 7750, there were some very good deals when those movements left Rolex (do your homework) and have been put in some very nice watches,some of the older Invictas and some that went into obscurity. All of these things that I have bought over the years have done nothing but appreciate,and I have no regrets either.

Was even better when Rolex quit sucking up all the Zenithes.

You would be surprised how many don't know this either then you could find the El Primero movement in all sorts of things

It's cool that this thread popped back up recently. I recently decided that it was finally time for me to get a watch and so, for Christmas, my lovely girlfriend went half-zies with me on an Orient automatic. I picked up an aftermarket leather band soon after I got it (the polished stainless band it came with was a bit too blingy for me and my line of work). I am super happy with this purchase, and I get complimented everywhere I wear it. The in-house Japanese automatic movement is running like clockwork *ha* so far. It also comes with some great features for the price including sapphire crystal and an open-heart face that shows the balance wheel spinning and several of the jewels. Now I just have to keep myself from picking up a "sporty" watch to wear on the weekends .

Years ago. I bought myself and my Dad both a Rolex Submariner Watch. I was in the military and I spent if I remember maybe $750.00 maybe a little more than that. Today they sell for almost $10000.00, (they have priced themselves out of my market) I do not know what ever happened to my Dad's watch when he died, I asked his wife for it and she said he didn't have one. My house was burglarized in 1985 and my Rolex ran away from home.(I guess I didn't treat it right oh well) I bought an Invicta Watch as a matter of fact I had 6 of them. (all pieces of junk IMHO) I have a Seiko Railroad approved watch, the band is broken it keeps good time. It's sitting here on my desk. I bought a Casio watch @Wally World in Ridgecrest Ca. (my invicta that I was wearing the latch on the band broke the gold turned my arm green)paid $85.00 for it.That was in 2008 runs perfect. Should have bought one years ago. I also have a G-Shock Casio watch that I bought in I think 1985 or 1986 still runs, the band broke it's in a drawer somewhere.
