After wearing, shining, 4 miles runs in them (not kidding), and cursing these type of boots while serving in the Military I despise them. Actually, I may set a few pairs up for target practice today. Bullets cost so much these days you might as well make it fun...

Excellent description of spit polishing! I never used a brush afterwards, though, only a dry cotton ball, with the toe or heel or whatever I was spit polishing 'misted' with my breath.
These days I don't spit polish my boots for work; but I still like them nicely polished. The black boots pictured were about 350 bucks from memory, H Hudson 'Herman' hand made in Portugal. I didn't like how the right boot wore differently than the left; and after a year the soles need re-soling now.
The brown boots will be my next purchase (after re-soling the black ones). The brown ones are by 'Selected'- Portuguese again. I like the toe cap on those. Those are only 150...

The brush is the prelim of course ...but believe it or not ,the nylons are the magic bullet. Shiney as can be.

H By Hudson is one of my favorite brands to, something about their old style boots that get my attention.
Yeah, nylons is king of shine, it's becource of the friction heat it gives, it's also good for waxing wood.
All the looks I've gotten from asking "can I have your old nylons?".
