FLINTLOCKS RULE.... Only 6 guys showed up for the black powder shoot...and every body BUT ME,was shooting an in-line with a scope or peep sights, with pellets and cronicals. We all threw 5.00 in the hat and started. First station was cutting the playing card in half.... I took a chunk out but no points, and nobody else did either. The second station was to hit the AX head and split the ball to break 2 clay birds with 1 shot... I did It !!! (first time in my life ) and the other 5 members failed. Then 3 shots at 50 yards off hand... And at the end of the scoring Ole Nessmuck with his Rock Lock and fixed iron sights walked away with the cash and left them in-lines w/ scopes talking to themselves !!!! And this is a true story!!

Thanked: 1160See....I don't understand the concept of modernising a blackpowder stick ? Why shoot one if you want all that modern stuff ? Why not just shoot a bolt action or something like that.....I feel the same way about competition shooting of any kind. I see all these rifles with fancy scopes and stock with all kinds of adjusters on them and think...."isn't the whole point to see how good you are with the rifle you'de be shooting in the field ? Guess I just think askew ??

Thanked: 1160Yes...I know about that,,,however they were optics of the times...not the modern stuff you see nowadays...large difference in technology and not accurate for the time period.

Thanked: 884In the late 80's and early 90's my flinter went everywhere with me. I had an old IH Scout and an "easy rider" rifle rack mounted in plain view. The flinter rode in the top and and a shorty AR-15 with two 30 rd mags installed rode under it. Never failed that some smart aleck would make a crack about the LONG rifle and I'd tell 'em 50 yds, off hand, shooting beer cans off of fence posts, 5 bucks a miss and they could shoot whatever they wanted. Put up or shut up.
I made a LOT of beer money with that thing. Never got spanked. Word finally got around that I wasn't one to mess with at my game.Member Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club, participant SE Asia War Games 1972-1973. The oath I swore has no statute of limitation.

not surprised here at all. not at all. Proud for you.
they probably scrape their chins with multi-bladed-pastica with goo from a can...but who knows.
so many guys are happy to hit the target, but don't get real deep into improving their scores. i'm still working on inletting the works into my stock, but i know me and me will shoot the tarnation out of this gun (when complete) and that will give me all the accuracy i need (and a lot of fun) for out-shooting them late-models.

Thanked: 1160I meant that modern scopes would not be accurate for a rifle of the 17th and 18th century.

I have been to bigger shoots where cap locks shoot against cap locks, and smooth bores shoot against smooth bores just to keep the playing field fair. But Flintlocks do have an advantage........ You get to aim twice !!! LOL
