Thanked: 1371Re: Hunting Season 2012
I took the kids squirrel hunting a couple of weeks ago. Neither had done it before, and both had a great time. I didn't get any pics of the hunting, but we did some shooting the following day and I got some pics of that (I posted them in another thread, hopefully no one will mind the re-post).
My daughter thought skinning squirrels was pretty cool, and both kids enjoyed squirrel stew. We will definitely be doing that more often.
I didn't get any time to bow hunt this year... The firearms deer opener is next weekend; I took some time off of work for that.
For long range I'll have my trusty 30-06. My big goal though is to get a deer with my .357. I'm shooting cast bullets: semi-wadcutter with gas checks from wheelweight + 5% tin over 13.5 grains of Alliant 2400 - they come out of my Blackhawk at almost 1400 fps.
I'll keep you posted on the deer season.
Oh, and Glen: 11 miles is a haul! I just have to cross a few acres of cow pasture to get to the good hunting!Last edited by HNSB; 10-26-2012 at 12:22 PM.
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Two types:
Whitetail for the MEEEEEEchigan firearm season up in the great Northern State (Michigan's Upper Pennisula) using a 303 Enfield with store bought ammo.
Since I am so close to Wisconsin, I will be doing some hunting at Mama Bear Soaps (only a 40 min. drive from the cabin).

Taking a new guy hunting is a labor of love. 'Hope the gent does well and appreciates the learning.
Given the toys you either do or have had access to, I smile at the choice. Smokeless? BP? The 1895 being light - I'll bet you appreciate the porting with smokeless. The bp loads seem so gentle in recoil by comparison.
'Hope you both have a wonderful time.

You have to leave your back deck?

Most wouldn't have seen Glen's vid of the Bull moose in his front yard. That was pretty spectacular. The mobile groceries in my yard are usually of the venison persuasion, but a few elk over the yrs.Last edited by pinklather; 10-26-2012 at 02:02 PM.
