    Congrats on the harvest.

I made it out this afternoon with a buddy who has never been hunting before. We spotted a deer about 400 yards out. Glass confirmed antlers so I started stalking in closer. Feller was moving faster than I expected and popped up over the ridge line about 150 yards out. He saw mr and froze
I counted 4 big fat tines on each side. I held about 3" over and pulled the trigger.
    Kaboom.
Big puff of sweet white smoke.
He pooped himself and ran off. I went to reload and forgot to put powder in before the bullet. Glad I had my bullet puller with me for such occasions.
Went to check for blood and saw where he dug in hard to run off and found poop behind the dug in tracks. No blood. Followed his trail another 200 yards to be sure. It was 5 minutes till sunset so we started hoofing it out. Saw two more deer on the way but it was too dark to make out antlers and where I hunt I only have two days of antlerless. Rest of the county has two weeks of antlerless. At least I know where the bugger hangs out in the afternoon now so I'll go back there again. On the upside I found a nice chunk of fatwood. Plus I got someone introduced to a wonderful bit of sport. So it wasn't a rousing success but it was hecka fun.

You damn Skippy!! You can send the liver and heart this a ways!! Awesome!! There are few things better than dropin' the hammer on a black powder gun, then, dropping down to the ground under the smoke to see your hit!! Good job!! Be proud and enjoy the meat!!!

I bribed one of my kids to post a picture for me. Here's the 120 lb field dressed four point buck and my JP McCoy 45 caliber flintlock.

No luck for me in the general firearms season. The party I hunt with filled 10 of 11 tags. I never got a good look at a deer.

I may find the time to go during the muzzle-loader season.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Hopefully you had a good time with your friends.
I used to hunt deer with my uncles when I was young, 17 or 18. I was too stupid to find one. Never got a shot on one, but I loved the woods & keeping the camp running. Had one of them 4 legged steaks wandered through the camp though, I think I could have got'em.

I got beat out of hunting season this year. Had to go back to work running a tug from Nome to Seward Alaska. Now sitting in Dutch Harbor waiting for the latest storm to pass. When I do get to hunt I like to use my 1895 Swedish Mauser in 6.5 X 55mm for deer, and my thirty some ought for elk. 140 gr. Nosler partitions in the 6.5 and 180 Nosler partitions in the '06. That is one fine bullet. I got a nice 5X elk last year, so we've enough meat in the freezer to feed the Red Army for a month. If I can figure out how to post a picture I'll put one of the elk in another post.

My brother borrowed my rifle years ago, 7mm Remington mag. He grabbed a box of ammo and burned them up shooting paper. They were, hand weighed, and loaded Nosler boat tail bullets. He couldn't understand why I was pissed off. From the sound of things, you'll make it through the winter without starving. Take care sir.
