Just reinforces her opinion that I'm insane. First time she saw a straight out in the bathroom, she said "WHAT IS THAT?" I explained that it is a tool called a Ra-Zor, and men use them to remove hair from their faces. After my jaw healed enough, I explained why I enjoy it, and how much the routine means to my mornings. She rolled her eyes and walked away.

My lady thinks it is sexy or cool when shaving with a straight, even though she hasn't seen me shave. But she thinks I'm a little obsessed..and maybe that I'm a little nuts about it. But hey this is a gender equality thing ain't it? Women can be obsessed by shoes or clothes or what ever, so why shouldn't a man be able to have the same kind of love for straight shaving, grooming and stuff?

I guess the nuts is pretty much the norm out there. I am a hard grizzled veteran when it comes to shaving but very very new when it comes to straight razors. The Mrs has seen the whole progression from those terrible electric razors, through cartridge razors, double edges and to the straight razor. I think she understands why I am doing what I am. My folks were pestering me to improve my shaving when I used an electric, she saw when I finally got fed up with the electrics and pitched three of them in the garbage and dragged out a Fusion. She remembers when I was fustrated at Proctor and Gamble about the cost of a fusion cartridge (approximatly $3.25 each in my area). I think that she understands why I am working with a straight these days, presuit of the ultimate shave, so smooth its surpasses her leggs on a good day. Folks are amazed that I haven't lopped my head off as yet, I have never drawn blood with a straight ever, I have drawn blood shaving but that's alwasy been a double edge or a cartridge that does that the straight never has.

My wife thinks I am nuts for having an interest in shaving, especially with a straight and the time it takes and the collection of razors and materials. She laughs out loud at me for spending time on these boards.

I think she is nuts for all the way around

I have an old saying garrett, if the two genders understood eachother our collective heads would explode. I think that this is what you are seeing.

My Girlfriend thinks it's pretty scary for me to start using (haven't gotten one yet haha)a straight but then again I don't think it surprises her. I have a wide collection of sharp metal objects. It was only a matter of time ahaha. But like most of the other guys I think she thinks it's cute and great that i'm actually thinking about taking care of my face with all these new facial products.

My girlfriend doesn't really think about it at all. She zones out when I start talking about it or trying to show her my brush or razor, and only pretends to be interested in the final result (my BBS shave). I suppose its a nice effort for her to pretend to be interested, but I really just prefer the zone-out method.

When I shaved with a Mach 3, she wouldn't mind being in the bathroom at the same time, and once I even convinced her to shave my face with it. Not only am I never gonna let her touch my straight razor, let alone shave my face with it, but now when I'm shaving, she doesn't come remotely close to the bathroom, even if she has to pee or something, she just holds it.

Which is really nice because that way, my shaves end up as purely "me time", not "us time". Its really the only "me time" I get in the day, and it can last as long as I want:

"Gee sweetie, I didn't even realize it took me an hour and a half to shave today! Why is that twice as long as yesterday? I have no idea! I guess I was distracted!"

Well, I ain't got no wife/gf, since I'm not gay, but my husband probably thinks I'm crazy...and not just for the straight razors, either!

A different question might be, do I really GIVE a rat's patootie what anyone thinks about my SR obsession?

I thought I posted to this thread but apparently not.

I am very lucky to have CarrieM as my Lady Friend. She is very supportive of my collection that is well over 100 by now. Wne I first broke out my Dad's Super Speed for my son I noticed a slight interest in her eyes. Then when I broke out the 5 straights I purchased 20 years ago her eyes lit up. Carrie has been very supportive of my hobby and has encouraged me to purchase my first set of hones, approved my selection on may of the razors purchased, presented me with two very fine NOS straights for Christmas from her and JrJoed (my son) and just last week encouraged the purchase of Tony Miller Heirloom strop for my birthday present. Carrie particularly likes Torrey and Robson straights and has three Torrey's of her own as well as a Super Badger brush and her TGQ Lavender shave cream.

Yes, I am a very lucky man and I thank God for bring her into my life.

I'm envious, Joed! Sounds like you have an understanding and participating spouse.

My husband just has a short, well-trimmed beard and mustache--because without them, by his own admission, he looks like he's 15--so all he needs are trimming scissors. I WOULD try to tell him he's missing out on the whole SR scene, but I know I'd get the eye-roll (we've been married 10 years...you learn their reactions in that time!)

"Approve?" What is this "approve" concept? It's like on Monday, when I was checking out of my suite at the resort on South Padre Island and the bellman asked me if my husband had "let" me come down there alone.

I replied, "LET? Ain't no 'let'! I run the show at that circus, son!"
