Effects of the moon on shaving are as real as the ocean's tide. This isn't dry shaving we're talking about about! The altered gravitational forces will greatly affect those who choose to hone and shave during this time.

You'll experience difficulties with any honing that utilizes water. Waterstones that have to be soaked prior to use should be treated with extra caution. Water will pool unevenly on the surface of hones. Rolling X strokes will be required on the straightest blades. Smiling blades may be honed with normal strokes, if done at the right time.

Stropping will be unaffected by the eclipse. Anyone that says otherwise is a lunatic.

Lather may be surpisingly pleasant though as warm water will dramatically increase the quantity of lather and prevent it from breaking down for hours! Build a lather, take a shower, and you may even find more lather in your bowl/mug when you return to shave.

If you are brave enough to shave during the peak of the eclipse don't be surprised when you have to change the directions you usually shave. Hair follicles reacting to changes in the environment and combined with abnormal lather will cause WTG to feel XTG. XTG will feel like WTG. ATG will still feel like ATG. These can change those depending onthe phase of the eclipse and will be reversed south of the equator due to the Coriolis effect. It's all rather technical.
People's moods are affected even more strongly than the full moon. How it all comes back to shaving is a mystery though. Why just recently after a shower my daughter said, "shave?" "When did she learn that word?", I wondered.
"No, I didn't shave." While I didn't connect the two I noticed later at Kroger her normally sunny disposition becoming more tempermental. What had gotten into her? I should have been more cautious because during one tantrum she tried to sink her teeth through the sleeve of my polo shirt and into my skin! Clearly the fact I hadn't shaved had aggitated her and I had only myself to blame. Toddlers don't just have tantrums like that! I will provide photographic evidence of this incident.



So, hone if you must, shave carefully, enjoy the lather, and be careful around your loved ones for the time being!
