Thanked: 0Take a quick look at the documents at the Penn State Residence Life website at Penn State Residence Life.
There is no mention at all of razors in the Community Standards Code, and the only mention of knives says that you wouldn't be punished that badly even if someone did complain.

In my experience, you aren't going to get in trouble for anything in a dorm unless you make trouble for someone else, or if you somehow make someone with authority want to get you in trouble. I wouldn't worry too much about it, I don't think they'd expel you for shaving.

Thanked: 11Exactly as said above. Don't ask or make friends with your RA. At Cal Poly Pomona I am also not allowed to bring a blade longer than 3 inches into the dorms but I do so anyway. My Hall Coordinator mentioned this to me when my RA reported me to him but all I had to do was convince that it was harmless and that It was highly unlikely that I am going to go on a killing spree with straight razors.
Also as said above no one follows the rules at college. People are drinking and smoking pot everywhere. Just do your own thing and tell everyone else to mind their own damn business.

Thanked: 19I'm not sure if it is the same way at Penn State, but at GW the health and safety inspectors could only get you in trouble if you had an illegal item within plain sight. They were not allowed to open drawers, bags, or boxes, so hide it in your dresser drawer until you move off campus!

It is better to ask forgiveness than permission. That being said, it isn't worth getting kicked out over.

If you asked a department called "Judicial Affairs," of course they wold err on the side of caution. So, if you slash someone with the razor, they can say that they told you not to bring it on campus. They're just covering their own behinds as regards liability. They would probably say no if you asked if you could use soap in the shower.

Thanks for the ideas everyone.
Unfortunately I still can't bring it. First, my Dad doesn't want me to now because it's not allowed, and second because they already have information that I want to bring it. I'm going to delve further and see if I can get permission from someone before trying to just sneak it in and getting even more ****ed over if I get caught. Thanks again all.

Maybe it's time to take up DE shaving.

That really is too bad that they don't allow them. I was a RA, and the area coordinator thought it was really cool that I was into straights. I even ran a wetshaving program in which I gave away DE razors/blades/soaps, showed off my straight gear, and did a demo straight shave.
As a last ditch effort, you could try getting a copy of the official rules that relate to knives. Typically, whether or not they are allowed is based on the blade lenght, and straights are under the normal limits. Worth a look, I think.
