Thanked: 55Did you ask someone if straights were for you or were you just attracted to them? I think you sound like the kind of person that would have done whatever you're mind was set on so you're not the kind of guy that Ray would have directed the question to. So in the end had it been you then you would have been here anyway.
For people who truly didn't know anything about straight shaving this was the analogy that Ray used and no it's not stupid. It's only part of the conversation he had with people shortened to fit in an article. I'm sure you get the point, there really is no need to be insulting and ungentlemanly with the language.
Ray was a great help to many people while he was here and he is missed.
Regards,
EL

well the most obvious option would be to take it to any auto parts store where they collect it to be recycled.
By any I mean every.
I also recycle it myself in different ways, but that is the most obvious.
easy there killer

I had a good chuckle over both the article and the utube skit. I thought it about summed me up pretty well, I do most of any fix up jobs around the place and work. Cast my own bullets, shoe my own horses, grow my own hay, vegies, kill my own snakes etc etc.
When I am in a real hurry, generally due to poor time management I use a de, may be twice in the last 3 years.
I guess a lot of members here in these forums are lifestyle driven, and don't much give a toss for the mainstream where we can get away with it.
cheers all

Chimensh,
Its really not stupid . . . your being way to hard on the situation.
Its a complex issue, choosing our shaving "weapons"; and it's even more difficult because Ray Dupont did more, with the exception of Lynn, for straight shaving than all the members of this forum combined, but:
Given the scenario of having to assist someone in determining whether to use a straight or a DE for the rest of their lives, a need to be correct, and removing all bias you personally have, what would be the two questions you would ask to figure it out?
So the question is what two questions can you ask someone on the phone that will allow you to determine if they have whatever the quality it is that allows you to overcome the learning curve and use a straight daily?

Q#1
If you don't already change the oil in your own car, would you consider doing it if there was an obvious benefit to be had?
ok I don't know what the second question was and the article wants me to sign up now

If you would prefer riding a horse as your primary mode of transportation you would probably be a straight razor guy.
If you prefer a single action handgun to a semi-automatic as your primary defensive weapon you are probably a straight razor guy.
I like a 15 speed Schwinn Paramount to ride and a Glock .40 S&W to shoot but I broke the mold and became a straight razor guy in spite of that.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
