I'm shocked! Dumbfounded! Rich...you have a job??? Unfortunately, we live in a "me" society. And worse yet, we allow it. Just like traditional shaving, so often, proper manners are not taught in the home.

Being that I'm an employee of the USPS I can say with some authority that the manners that were mailed to New York were most likely missent to Biloxi where they were delivered to the mailbox of a vacant apartment and are now buried under several week's worth of advertising(junk)mail. However, I believe the saying about how an armed society is a polite society and so IMHO every child born here in the U.S. should, before leaving the hospital, be issued an Uzi with ten high capacity magazines, one thousand rounds of ammunition and a pair of hand grenades. Finding a babysitter might become quite a challenge.

I've often said it: This world would be a much better place if there weren't so many damn people

You are so right Randy. Proper manners are not taught in most homes. I have made an issue of that in my house though.
Oh by the way my boss is surprised too.

Hey Rich, have you been out of commission? That doesn't sound like an NYC reaction to me! It might be time to move to the suburbs, like me.

Joe,
I have lived in NYC for 52 years and while it has always been a hectic atmosphere it has never been as rude as in the last 10 years. People are not taught at home manners which is beyond belief. I think this is not only a NYC thing I think the country is getting less mannered as a whole. I hope I am wrong.

Until recently, I used to commute to work in NYC every day, so I've noticed the same thing as you. But being aware of the NYC temperament, I always went out of my way to helpful and pleasant to visitors. Some of my co-workers etc. used to look at me in a strange way because they weren't used to seeing me that way.

The whole Western civilization is going toward isolating the individual from the family, from the circle of friends and from the society in general. Too many people have an overblown sense of self-importance, which leads to bad manners.
