Thanked: 5chromium Oxide
If anyone has some small packets of chromium oxide that they could share around I would be most greatful as it has been impossible for me to source any in the UK. Apparently when people do get hold of a jar, theres so much you could paint the Fourth bridge with it !!

Thanked: 271Chromium oxide is a green powder that is used in abrasive pastes as a final polish on a honed razor. It is often found mixed with wax in sticks but here they are talking about bulk powder to mix with oil or other carrier. There are lots of threads about it on the site.

Thanked: 174It's a chemical which they use as a pigment or colouring for green paint.
The chemical comes as a fine powder and it has a very fine abrasive quality of around 50,000 grit. It can be used to polish a honed razors edge. The effect is to soften and sharpen the edge for a most comfortable shave.
The powder can be applied to either leather, balsa wood, newspaper .... basically any stropping base. You either mix the powder in a light oil or apply it as a dust. There are postings on the honing forum on how to apply the chromium oxide to a stropping base.
Only about 5 passes on the treated strop will achieve the desired effect.
Many shavers find that this final finishing or polishing before stropping on leather is most beneficial and will significantly improve the quality of the shave you get from the razor.
There is only one downside to it's use of which I am aware. The polishing if overdone can remove the edge a little and the length of time before a rehoning is due can be shortened.
It's a kind of majic dust which is inexpensive and very very effective. The nearest equivalent is diamond grit which is both expensive and considered by most to be less effective in that it gives a rougher feel to the edge.

Thanked: 131Sudden thought.
We should have a first aider on site. Does anyone have any first aid experience/qualifications?

I'm an up to date first aider for what it's worth. The hall will have a first aid kit doubtless - I can ask.
Re shave den etc. - yep, I think we push it to all those mentioned maybe starting this weekend. The SRP membership has slowed down and we have room for another 30! I am happy to push it on the three sites mentioned by the beginning of the week.
nathanjones - I think bringing your dad is just fine with the numbers as they are looking.
cheers
Stephen
