Thanked: 2209We had the 1st Minnesota get together today!
It was well attended with 13 guys showing up! I wish to thank Mike Blue and ChrisL for making this all happen and the vendors for providing the door prizes! We drew names from a hat and everyone went home with at least 2 items.
I have to drive back to Wisconsin this evening so I will make this short.
Here is a link to some pics of the Minnesota together. ChrisL and others can put the names to the pic's until I get back in a couple of weeks.

Thanked: 995I had a great time. It was good to put faces to names. I'm the only one with a beard. That'll save labelling the pix. There was a lot going on all at once and I missed a bunch of the honing stuff. But that gives us a reason to get together again. Thanks to Randy for the idea in the first place and Chris for being the organization fellow.
Charlie, sorry your original frameback blade didn't survive the demonstration. I owe you something for that. It was fun giving nearly everyone a heart attack. The blade survived the hammer but didn't survive my fingers. LOL.“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. Most people can bear adversity. Well then, don'cha know? Eh?
Nice to see a thriving community of steel rakers out there! I had to work due to work-hour conflicts and such.. anyway, I was (not) there in spirit (lucky mofos). Not that I'm jealous (I am).
This is my soul not being able to attend:

Thanked: 335Hello Minnesosta Shave In(ers),
I had great fun at the first Tundra Razor Up. Thanks Mike for hosting the event and Randy and Chris for your inspirational and organizational... inspiration and organization. The door prizes contributed by Vintage Blades, Mama Bear, and the Wm. Marvy Co. were great!!!
It was great fun both meeting some of the upper midwest straighters and associating handles with faces. (I'm the faux tortise without the beard ;^)

Now THAT was fun!
A huge thank you to Mike Blue; it wouldn't have happened with you. The shop, the forge, the overall setting was fascinating.
Thanks go out to Randy; he's being modest. I think of it as one of his original ideas to get this going. He was the honemeister that taught and anchored the day with his tutorials.
Thanks to Mama Bear for THESE
Thanks to Jim and Erin at Vintage Blades, LLC (and to Lynn for pre-honing this beauty) for This
This
And.....This
Thanks to William Marvy Company for the nice smelling almond oil soaps and the cups. The Marvy company is the only remaining barber pole manufacturer in North America. Click HERE for more info.
Thanks to Vgod for the very nice canvas razor roll.
Thanks to Terry Knipschield, Knifemaker for the tubes of brushless shave cream and for his expertise.
And last but not least.......thanks to all who attended!! A truly great group of guys to the last man.
I'll be posting pics that I snapped with a name list soon along with some pictures from the forge.
Thanks to Lynn. Without SRP, none of this would have happened.

This was a really great event -- you could tell by the way we all lost track of time! Thanks for everyone for coming, for donating door prizes, and it was terrific to meet you guys in person.

A few more pics plus a quick video on honing a smiling razor
Good times!
Mike your shop is great. I love the smell of molten metal, it brings back old memories of my teenage years when I was a welder's apprentice. I am sure I am not alone when I say that I really enjoyed your discussions on metallurgy. Fascinating stuff. Thanks for opening up your shop to all of us on a Saturday afternoon. OH yeah your samurai swords are amazing.
Thanks Chris and Randy for doing all the leg work of putting all this together and representing at least part of your hone collections. Ron your collection of hones is the most diverse I have seen, cool stuff gentlemen.
Good to meet all of you that came, I am with Ted when I say it went too fast.
Here are some pics and a quick video I grabbed of Randy representing one of his techniques honing a smiling razor using one of Chris' shaptons.
Already looking forward to the next time.
Best,
Sean

Thanks everyone for making the effort to get together on a beautiful day. I was impressed to see people from all over and I agree that we all had a great time. Thanks to everyone for the prizes as well as all of the useful tips and knowledge gained. I look forward to he next meeting and encourage others around the country to put one together if you have not done so yet. Thanks Mike for hosting, Chris and Randy for organizing. See you all next time until then remember, always move from spine to edge, never ever heel to toe.

Someone let me know the date of the MN get together as I'm donating a stone for the raffle. Also, Chris L, if you're reading this, let me know the address to send it to and when it needs to be there.

Hey Howard, we'll have to catch up with you next time. We had the meet on 11/15/2008. We are planning another in approx 3 months and I'll be sure you know about that one in advance. Maybe you can make it to the next one which would be even better!!
