OK guys, the wheels are definitely in motion. I'm collecting all of your email addresses as we speak with a bunch of PMs sent out. Once I get them, I'll be sending the directions to Mike's place within the next few days and we'll get a better idea of how many are planning on coming. I see potential so far for 10-15?

I'm also getting positive responses from some of the generous vendors and will be posting some "teasers" when I start receiving the door prizes from them like I already have from Sue (aka Mama Bear). Thanks Sue!

I'll lug a bunch of my hones along and some of my razors. Guys, bring your gear if you've got it!

More to follow soon of course. Thanks again Mike for hosting this, it will be a blast and a great learning experience for all to boot.

Fair warning: this is a smithy. It's divided in two halves, a clean side and, for lack of a better description, a dirty side. Now the clean side is merely dusty. The dirty side is a lovely collection of tools befouled in a fashion that says, "Somebody works here."

If you are the kind of person who might be tempted to investigate fire, smoke, oil, burning steel, grinding sparks, loud noises of various kinds, please bring some protective gear of your choice. Eye and ear protection are required, gloves and a hat are good too. I have some spare safety glasses and ear plugs, if you forget. Clothing your significant others won't mind getting, um, dirty, may be a good idea too.

The sign on the door reads: Enter at your own risk. For good reason too.

But that also means you can probably talk me or Terry into showing how pattern welded steel gets that way. Grinding a blade to shape etc. Heat treatment and so forth. I don't want to try to do it all at once, but any particular curious notions can be fed quite easily if we plan ahead. Are there any things you Upper Midwesterners can't live without knowing about the steel parts of a razor?

Thanks for the PM Randy; this is a great idea, especially for a new straight'er like myself. I wasn't able to do Sunday but may be able to do Saturday. Is it ok to be counted as tenative right now?

Thanks for posting that, Mike. That's great preliminary info to know. I'll also mention this to all the guys when I send out the simultaneous email with directions to your place later this week.

Like Randy, I have built a no weld grinder from Tracy Mickley's plans. I would LOVE to glean any info whatsoever from you on hollow grinding. Forging would be just great as well. I've never forged a thing, but I'd love to at the least, watch it.

Sakes alive is this going to be a great experience.

Okay, I'll leave a spare Dixie cup out for ya. I graduated from Iowa City in 1974. Damn that brings back memories of "Lazar up the middle..." and going 0-11 for the season.
