I was one one of the 'lucky' ones that had to lap plenty as my hone was warped. I only bothered to lap one side.

Sounds perfect to me for a synthetic set of stones(though I don't have the 20K). I'm hearing it makes child's work out of honing. Again, YMMV and you better know how to have your ducks in a row, but, that's what I'm hearin'

EDIT:: To be clear, when I say child's play, I need to point out this statement is intended ONLY for those that know how to get the edge where it needs to be BEFORE going to the SG20K. I don't want a beginner to take the statement out of context. ::/EDIT

    Of course, unless HAD strikes.

+1, I ain't even got the one side lapped completely from corner to corner, just enough to hone razors is all I need.

Same thing happened with me when I was 11 yrs old - I only had one leg but my dad bought me the Dennis Law Football Annual for Xmas. Slept with it next to my affected leg each night and not only did it grow back, but its prettier than the other one and I was soon playing for Man Utd. under 16s. YMMV, of course...

"makes child's work out of honing" Read that before you shave as a pre-shave, it will make your beard stand up, as well as your head hair and your arm hair.....lots of buzz words in Siguy's post but he sounds sincere. Remember, some of these guys have spent decades honing razors and I'll bet not a one would call it child's play. Read the sig line under GSSIXGUN's posts. That sentiment has been said many times. From a new person at honing myself I'll just say it isn't easy.

I clarified my post a bit above. I don't want any misinterpretation.

Jimmy - bad comparison - Tiger uses extra stiff shafts further tipped to make them stiffer. The lofts on his irons are not jacked up like modern forgiving clubs that try to make you feel food about hitting a wedge longer (it has the loft of an 8 iron). A "normal" golfer couldn't get his clubs airborne and they are not forgiving at all. It would be akin to asking a beginning honer to start learning with a warped old rusted blade with a big smile and a frown.

On a more relevant note - Why would one finish off using a dry hone (20K) as mentioned above as a tip for the last strokes with the Gokumyo 20K?
