    Hard stones are unnecessary for razors period... Unless you hone a lot of razors & do edge repairs. Then with hard stones you waste less time lapping & spend more time honing.

    I don't like them either if there's an alternative. I'm mostly JNat, and fineness generally goes with hardness, but there's a small percentage that are softer and yet fine.

    And one caveat, if you have a darned hard and fine stone, like the CKTG Ozuku I have, it works fine if you slurry it with a worn out diamond plate. You won't live long enough to slurry it with an equivalently hard natural nagura.

    You can use both diamond plate & go over it with hard nagura. Try it you might like.

    I somehow missed this post, but yes, I've broken diamond plate slurry with natural naguras and you're right, it's a good thing to do. I know Bill3152 has mentioned that too.
