    Verrrry Interestink!

UPDATE: took a razor that shaved well off the Norton & used water only for lots of strokes. I just honed until water undercut evenly. Didn't feel any change in feedback. Very thin film of water. Test shaved a small patch (this was without doing my usual prep which involves a shower--I just lathered on my face & went for it) & seemed to be cutting quite well--better than I'd expect the Norton to do under the circumstances. I figured I'd live dangerously & lathered up my whole face. Just WTG w/ some XTG cleanup on my jawline only.

The razor was very smooth--I could actually feel where my beard was softened & where it wasn't (like I say, my shirt-collar-pilling mass of steel wool was not totally softened), but the shave was pretty good. I look forward to a full test shave tomorrow...

Signs look good (and actually the stone now reflects like a mirror @ low angles, but still no good camera). Still curious about a Shoobie-Doobie, though...

Well, just did a full test shave w/ full prep & 3 passes. THe stone works much better than before, but it's still a tiny bit below the Thuringians in sharpness & smoothness. I'm going to try using one of their slurry stones as a tomonagura (the slurry is a mix of the 2 slurries) & then go to water & see how that works.

If not you are lapping wrong.
The Diamond is good for to get the surface to a plane (geometry) but it is too coarse to make the surface smooth.
    I disagree.
Both these stones have been rubbed with an Atoma 1200 diamond plate every time they are used. 2 years now. As you can see, no coarse scratches. The diamond plate may be a little scratchy when new but not when broken in.
First pic is reflection from light globe.

Oz that is not my experience, my Atoma leaves a lot of scratches, and I have had it for a year now.
Also the scratches can be seen only when the stone is dry.

Harder stones like Lv5+ is very very hard and if some particle from stone it self get loose they can affect sharpening.

So stone have to be as smooth as possible so bigger particles dont get loose.

I see it very often that some people use they stone first time and like it a lot , then after flattening they think stone is bad it its because flattening is not made correct And they did not smoothen stone enough.

On softer stones flattening do not affect that much as on harder stones, because softer stones brake grits faster.

I think the picture is made with a wet stone.
And I think this stone look a bit soft.

Can you please make a dry stone picture?

First pic is wet, medium hard stone.
The second picture is a dry, very hard stone.
