Thanked: 2591I played with the SP Hard 1k last few days and I am beginning to change my mind about how it works with razors. Initially I found it caused a lot of microchipping, but now it seems to have settled. I find it faster than 1k Chosera for edge repairs, and it leaves about the same finish. I still prefer the chosera but this stone is a very nice alternative.
There is a new King for high speed steels and stainless , it is 800 grit I want to try and now because of you guys I have to try the SP 13k too. Oh well what's new when it comes to HAD he he.Stefan

Thanked: 1587My Sigma Pro Select IIs arrived a few days ago via EMS. If they are any indication, the guys here who ordered the 13K ceramic will be waiting slightly less than 2 weeks, depending on where they sourced the stones.

I'm taking delivery of mine today.
I'll get right on testing it tonight.
Once I've given it a good run on a dozen razors or so, I'll report back my preliminary findingsLast edited by Birnando; 11-03-2011 at 12:44 PM.

Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Yep I got a bit of a HAD bite.
I got my Sigma 13K a couple days ago.
Mine is nice, dense and follows an 8K Snow White hone
very well resulting in a good shave. It does not
have the trivial dimensional issues that my Naniwa 12k
Superstone hone has. It is a splash and go hone needing
no soak time.
Feedback is good -- it did not take too many
strokes for it to "sit down" and tell me that it
was well engaged and I was almost done.
Not as fast as my Naniwa 8K Snow White hone
but that is to be expected and for me desirable.
The look of the hone reminds me of a natural.
The way it is made seems to result in banding
but the hone feels uniform under the razor.
Vastly better than the Chinese rocks of reported
high but uncertain grits.
It is too soon to rank it above or below the 12k
Superstone from Naniwa. BOTH give me an edge that is
strop ready at a high level. I suspect any differences
I see are my stropping not the hone....
Keep it on the list...
