You never know when you might have to set a bevel.

And a travel kit does not have to be large. Here's the full monty: a small Narutaki iro glued up to a piece of King 1k, and the iro is a good razor finisher. Behind botan, ungraded but very fast mejiro-like, and a tomo. Add a strop or strop on your palm and you're good to go.
Cheers, Steve

I use dry box's like these for many things including my shaving kit when traveling.
Flambeau 14" Dry Box
I tend to carry courser hones when traveling because my knife needs sharpening much more often than my razor.

Thanked: 481Might need to cave and grab a couple of those pelican cases for the Naturals I picked up. I Kept most of my hones in the plastic cases they were shipped in, or stuffed them in Norton lapping hone cases that were no longer in use. Then they're stacked in an old metal tool box, which is also running out of room.

Good thing about the Pelicans, if it breaks they will probably give you a new one. If you line the Pelican the right way, if you drop it, then your chances are the stone will be O.K.

Thanked: 481Yea. This thread has me searching for an adequate foam lined case. Seems like all the deep ones are too large for my needs, and all the shallow ones don't have the width/length I'd need! There's no happy middle ground lol

Get a Pelican slightly larger than your stone,,, then go to Wal Mart in the pillow section & there are large sheets of white foam squares in a packet, cheap & more than you will use. Cut it to fit around your stones.

Thanked: 481Yea, I was thinking about checking out Wal Mart to see if they had any acceptable solutions. I saw a few OK looking cases made from Plano tackle caddies I was considering using. Might have to keep an eye out for those foam bits too.
