Default My new JNAT - Ozuku Mizo Asagi lv 5+ and Asano Nagura set + Tomonagura

I've been using JNATs for the past couple of months and love them as we'll. I was taught that you should not finish on plain water like a coticule. My understanding is that the slurry/swarf break down and create the finer and finer progression in and of itself. By going to straight water, again, my understanding, that you're actually going backwards with regards to refinement of the edge.

I'm no expert so maybe we could have some people chime in?

Depends on the stone how you need to finish.

With the Ozuku's, what's your personal prefrence? Finish with slurry or on the stone with water only?

I can say that the edge I produce off the stone only is FANTASTIC. Better than anything I've done yet. I haven't tried ending with slurry from the tomonagura to see if there is a difference yet.

Depends on the stone, does not matter which mine it came from.

Stefan, for #$%! sake, humor me here?

Which do you find gives better results? Out of sheer curiosity, I'd like to know!

He's right, I have an Ozuku, and it sucks, really. It's an expensive paperweight. Some folks go through several before they find one they like. Apparently, Mine is the hardest Ozuku known to man. I have to use Kiita slurry to get descent edges. Each stone has it's own personality. Mine needs a lot of tweaking.
If your getting "Fantastic edges" out of the box, then your good to go. Read my blog. http://straightrazorpalace.com/membe...uying-101.html

The only naturals that seem to be consistent are Escher. Those Ozuku's are very much like Coticules, Each is different ime.

FWIW, I can't end with slurry from Tomonagura, It won't work.

Sick! And j-Nats keep getting my interest. Need to educate myself a litle more (on both, honing and J-Nats) before I make a decision. Double O
You got a good price on those. If I were bidding, someone else would jack it up to 700.00 or so, just to piss me off. That's my luck.

I just got an Okudo asagi from Alex at the japan blade. Picking it up soon, I'll post about how it performs.
