With the success I have with my coticule, I'm not surprised that many use the coticule as the final finisher.
I have noticed that after reading the posts & viewing the photos of coticules (good up close shots), for the last couple of years; not all coticules appear exactly alike & many get mixed results. I feel a lot of the coticule's performance as a final finisher lies in the experience of the honer.
I would like to someday, get another coticule to compare with the one I have.

Not to start a Naniwa vs coticule debate ( I love ALL stones), but the facts that you stated, "consistency/predictability price and availability of the Nani SS is why it is used to frequently" obviously puts it out front in the poll.
I can't at this time, don't have a Naniwa yet, say that the stated facts make the Naniwa a better finisher than the coticule.

Thanked: 116I didnt mean to put a "which stone is better" spin on this. Really this was to get some numbers and a chance to do some show and tell of our favourites in one thread.
I will hopefully learn how to get every little bit out of the coti thats in the mail but it surprises me that an approx 8k coti edge stands up to all these synthetic superfinishers, proven thuris and super hard jnats.
Im finding the poll results very interesting and it just goes to show that different techniques, edges, steels can be used on such a wide range of homes and produce effectve and smooth shaving!!
Im very curious to see how closely a coti honed razor gets compared to the ss/jnat/welsh stones that ive finished on so far.
