Thread: Hone of the Day

It will happen ocassionally. Sometimes I am sure the bevel is OK, but then in the end it's just not where it needs to be. On this razor, I dropped back to my La Veinette coticule on slurry, that straightened her right up.
Now the sand in Mikawa nagura can really ruin your day. I can usually feel it, it will scratch the surface of the stone when it appears, then I just use my loupe to check and poke it out. The scratch was there this time as well, but only for the shortest moment before it fell out. Luckily I ran my fingers through the slurry....
I just shaved and heading off to work. Catch ya'll later! As the time passes, so we learn.

Thanked: 59This one gets hone of the month from me. Anyone ever tried putting a shaving edge on one of these? The blade is some kind of alien grade steel of some kind. Oh, the gymnastics I had to perform to get this one mostly ready!
Still needs some work at the toe. With tape, without, I tried everything to get this one sticky on my thumb at N 1k. Sheesh!!!
I'm just now taking it to my Mad Suita, or as I call it, coticule of steroids times 10.
I just have to say, I had some reservations about trying to shave with this thing after the hell it put me through trying to get it shave ready, I have to say, I'm very very impressed with this big monster of a straight razor. It's a little heavy and thin where you hold it but it cuts with the best of them all day long. She even sliced a small piece of my chin off. So we could get acquainted I guess...lol! I like them because their different and you can take them apart, I love things you can take apart. The little inset brass screw on mine I stripped though trying to take it apart, sure it will be easy to fix though. I can see the edge staying on this forever for as long as it took me to get it there..Last edited by Aerdvaark; 02-21-2017 at 02:55 AM.

Thanked: 168A dear frend of mine , send me this NOS Robert Claas 217 - That belong to his grandfather . It was never used .
Such a perfetly made razor - double stabiliser , smile , micro bevell .
One of the finest steels , that ive ever shaved ,with .
Honed on Suehiro 1- 3 K , La Loraine and finisher on this ancient Jnat - ultra hard stone , and very agressive cutter .
Ulta fine also . It is a strange stone - the gomas seeds , i can feel almost on 2 or 3 places under the blade , but it doesnt seems , to affect the edge . It have good suction and it gave every time perfect edge , despite the gomas . Weird stone - exelent and ultra fast finisher .
Work with all kinds of steels , perfectly .
