I took a few days off (I won't get into it, but my job sucks right now and I'm taking some time to decide whether to stay and fight it out or to walk away), and for the first time ever I actually had the time to get through ALL of my honing "to-do's".

Left to right: Puma Special 89, Heljestrad No. 23, Henckels Friodur 72, Hoshi Tombo 6000, Bengall, Wade & Butcher Celebrated Hollow Ground, Heart Columbia 77. I also honed up my Rolls Razor. Most of the razors just needed a touch up, but the Bengall and the Heart Columbia needed some chips to be repaired, and the W&B needed the full shebang as the edge was in rough shape.

The Naniwa 12k is new to me, I just got it a couple weeks ago. I'm very impressed with this stone, it lives up to all the hype: it's very fast and gives an incredible polish. The I've been experimenting a lot with the big thuri (I think that's what it is, anyways), it's a really nice finisher. I'm trying to figure out a good balance between these two stones to get the right mix of keenness and smoothness, which I'm pretty sure is what everybody else is looking for, too.

Wow beautiful lineup there. What grind is the 23? Also been really tempted to grab a tombo 6000

The Heljestrand 23 is near wedge or 1/4 hollow, maybe closer to a near wedge.

Full nagura progression on the jnats for the Heljestrand mk10.
Bevel was set on a atoma 1200 because the razor was so messed up. Smoothed it out on a Takashima with botan before taking it to the ozuku with the full progression.

Ah thanks! I remember someone saying it was a wedge so wasn’t sure if it needed tape like a true wedge would.

Wow, getting it done-Honing can be a very therapeutic, zen-out kind of activity. I hope your work situation improves.

Thanks, me too! And yes, the honing has helped me a lot. The way it forces you to focus on the smallest of details definitely calms and centers me, even better than shaving even. All this stress will hopefully turn me into a much better honer!

    Default An amazing Jnat

Razor: A very old wedge in excellent shape. The makers mark is not legible but i think it says “Warranted”. No other maker mark found.

    Bevel set: Chosera 1k

Finish: a beautiful Ozuko Jnat that is very hard, fine, and fast bought from Japan in a store called Morihei which is a high end tool and natural stone shop in Tokyo. Once learned, a very easy and quick stone with feedback that makes me want to pull it out and hone on it.

Photo bomb: Mastro De Paja “2 Suns” custom made for me by the owner Alberto Montini and of course, the iconic Zippo. Name: 26110E8C-DF32-49BC-9E2F-150A58053F6E.jpg

Which is no easy feat, since they don’t ship overseas (as far as I know)! A great looking stone Toro
