The more I use, and compare the results from my ZG to other finishers, the more I am impressed by this African stone...

I have this barber hone since i began straight razor shaving .It was given to me by the old barber that worked in Bulgarian comunistic time barber shop . This barber hone is unmarked and it was state suply for the national barbershops during the comusm and the cold war . I guess is made in Russia , Bulgaria or Chechoslovakia .
Im almost shure it is Rusian
Hard as hell and dark as the night , it has some shiny flakes in it . It seems gritty enought for a midle grit prefinisher , since recently i decide to lapp and conditioned it
lapped and conditioned on a floor bathroom ceramic taile with a coticule slurry and CROX on powder and 4 long hours of rubing aainst the diferent sluries
Fast as Ferrary and after joining or killing the edge 20 strokes on plain watter and 10 more on latther gave me an amazing ultra fine and comfortable shaving edge
Absolute comparable to my Thurys or fine finishers
I literaly cannot believe how this hone mutates after 4 hours of reconditioning It became awsome - definetly a Keeper
Next to the second razor i try it on- NOS japanese 22 mm blade kOKUSAIBUNKA

Just finished these four up. The one with the owl on the scales is a Wester Brothers "Be Wise". Now I'm a pretty big nerd for Wester Brothers razors and I decided to try out my Wester Bros. barber hone after the 12k. This thing felt GRITTY AS HELL. I took a peek under the loupe and it looked like it just came off of a 4K. It was really surprising because every one of their razors that I've handled has been really well made. I'll give it a test shave but I'm pretty sure it'll be going back to the 8k & 12k after I'm done.

First Kamisori honing from bevel to finish. This one was never honed before. Started on a coti and worked for a long while, but the bevel on the Ura never wanted to form. Really hard steel on the edge. Went to Nani Pro 5k and quickly got the bevel set. Nagura progression on the Nakayama: Hakka, Botan, Tenjou, Mejiro and Koma. Finish with tomo:

Amazingly sharp now, looking forward to see how it feels.

Today has been a lot of fun. Just received my new jewel. Honed up very nice on my insanely fine grit lime kiita finisher. I can't wait to shave!

Fillmore!!! My all time favorite. Wow. Now THATS a "hone of the day". Looking at your picture makes me want to leave work and go home and smoke a pipe full, with some coffee, and hone a razor or three. Thanks for sharing!!

The only bad thing abbout Fillmore is that im in the last 2 ouncess of the box - it ends quickly . I love G.L.Peace

(Sigh).... so much for working in the industry. My Zulu Grey arrived in Winnipeg yesterday, barcode scanned 3 times, but not delivered. Today it's been scanned and placed on a truck destined for Montreal, ultimately back to South Africa?!?!!....<sob>

I pulled out all the stops and did everything I could, hopefully the barcode will be trapped when it arrives in Montreal and then have a human turn it around. No idea why this happened, could be the label came off on the belts somewhere or perhaps the sorting machine just misread the label and sent it back. The joys of mechanization.

You can see the Faucet ding and the beginning of a heel hook





The ding was taken out on a Chosera 1k and the hook was removed on a DMT 325..



Working a bit more got the bevel even again and moved on through the Chosera line to a final finish on the BG Escher..
