Yes me too, you are correct, good observation. You could shave off the first coticule pictured. You could shave even better off the second coticule pictured. The Y/G Thuri is an awesome edge for shaving. The little gray stone w/oil is off the charts if used correctly. Not many blades can take it.

Much depends on the razor steel quality, grind and temper. When honing razors for others it is imperative that the end user can maintain the longevity of the edge. It does no good to hone a razor and have the edge crumble after the first few stropping sessions. Knowing how far you can refine the edge requires practice. Knowing when to STOP honing is just as important a skill to learn.

Here is a Larkin razor progression, bevel set no tape. These are quite nice shavers that are very affordable.

    move to naturals

    work horse coticule.

Final finish with synthetic coticule used w/ soap. Very slow but fine and gentle to steel. Hand holding allows for accurate blade pressure feedback.

Touched up the Kenwa Western kamisori using a big new koma and a tomonagura on the karasu. Lucked out on the koma, it's a fine one in many ways. Not much to this job.

Ha! No those are actually hands. The lens on the camera is short, so my hands are actually fairly close to the razor. Plus the hollow grind distortion.

Interesting. It looks very similar to some of my found in the wild stones:

Having fun with my C W Dahlgren on the hones tonight. Bevel reset on Nani Pro 1k, and refined on the SS 3k. Then La Veinette with Shinden Suita slurry:

I really like suita slurry, creamy and cutting. Seemed to work nice on the coti. Stepped on to Ohzuku with Tsushima nagura:

Finish with Mejiro and Koma on the same Ohzuku.

    Happy honing!

    Cool

I had the worst weekend possible aside from the Broncos winning the SB it sucked

Friday we find a pinhole leak inside the band new Pumphouse that I had spent a month making sure it was perfect inside..
Of course where it could do the most damage and would be the hardest to fix
Spent Friday night hunched over in there drying it out, spent Sat fixing the pipe..

Spent Sun watching the game, and stuffing my face

Yes the Wife rocks a SB spread

Still got razors honed even with an aching back

    Some of the highlights

A Rodgers that came out with a sweet even small bevel on a Coticule
