I have selected the tools for this event.

I started on the Puma last night, and will test drive it tonight.

Here's a pic of the two razors that will be subjected to the Norton throughout January

    B -

Do you think you can afford to take one of your Filis out of rotation for an entire month? You might run short on supply!

PS - love the green scales!

Is that Norton cut in half or is it just the pic that gives me that idea?

The pic is misleading imo, looks like a normal size to me.

    Post Lapping Video

OK I just posted a real time 27 minutes long Brand Spanking new Norton lapping Video...

I have to apologize in advance as I couldn't get a better angle on the sink so my shoulder was in the way during a ton of it

I went ahead and posted it up anyway as there is still some good info in there and you can make out quite a bit still, plus it isn't like you can redo a "First" lapping

ps: I don't think I said "At this point in time" at all during it

ps: Seriously if you watch this whole thing, you can officially call yourself a Straight Razor Geek, because this is not the most exciting video out there

I finished the CMon, the following is the procedure I used:

I lapped the 4K with a DMT 325, cleaned the hone off and raised some slurry with the same DMT.

I did 40 lite pressure circles followed 10 X strokes and repeated 5 times until I could shave arm hair at skin level. I rinsed the 4K, raised very thin slurry and did 10 X strokes, then repeated this with water only.

I lapped the 8K with the DMT 325, cleaned the hone off and raised some slurry with the same DMT.

I did 40 circles less pressure followed by 10 X strokes 4 times, after this I was able to cut hair a 8th inch above skin level. I rinsed the 8K, did 20 X strokes on water only.

I re-lapped the 8K side with the DMT, followed by 2000 grit sandpaper, then 4000. The surface of the 8K became less matted.

I did 30 X strokes with no pressure, 50 laps on weaved cotton, and 100 on English Bridle. I got to HHT 4.

So you basically did 200 circles, and 90 x strokes on the 8k all in all? This would be enough even after a 1k bevel set imo I will try this, never did more than 50-100 low pressure x strokes on clean water.

Now I have to watch the whole thing, just to be sure

On another note, I am having a heck of a time deciding which razors to use for this. I have a hard enough time deciding which one to use for shaving, never mind for an exercise like this one!

I think I'll go with my 6/8" Le Canadien in Snakewood and my W&B Bow Razor (the only one of about 5 I have that is currently active in my rotation, though that my soon change).

Both of these are razors that I have honed, from bevel on up, on my Nortons. So taking them to the 4k then the 8k should be fun, to see if I can get a better edge on them the second time around. I can also compare the TI to my black horn Le Canadien, which is the same blade, though it was finished by Maxi on his Escher. Then maybe a bit down the road, I can hone the other Bow I have that is pretty much perfect, so I can get a comparison.

    Fun stuff! Good idea, Glen!
