Well after honing the Frameback It was time to test shave. while both were passable, neither was what I prefer. not harsh but not quite "there" and hitting. I will try to get a little more out of the 8K.

I am officially waiting until Jan. 1 to start, but I think I have picked out my razors. I have 2 Spikes near wedges that might be just the thing to sue. Both are straight edges and need a bevel set. I think this will be the perfect pair. Anyone think this is a bad idea??

Remember, major league rookie here. This will be only my 8th attempt at setting my own bevel. Glen's video and I will become very, very good friends over the next month!!!

Really, please let me know if these razors are a bad choice.

    Thanks bro's!!!

I don't think so Mike, the "Spike"(s) are a more modern style "wedge" and they usually hone up pretty straight forward, I am assuming these are the Union Cutlery ones or an offshoot of them...
Just so long as there is no weird wear on them you should be fine...

With the holidays, this almost slipped up on me... I need to select my razors. I'm thinking about 2 Puma at the moment... I may change that, though.

With a new honer coming over this weekend, it should be a good time to teach both The coticule and the norton 4/8

I may look into that. If you think "at this point in time" is bad, you haven't seen anything yet.

How did you cut it? I used a diamond lapidary saw for my PHIG. I don't know how the Norton would effect the blade. The blade is worth more than the hone for sure.

Yes, Glen, exactly, they are the Union Cutlery 'Spike's. The 2 I have in mind are 9/16 and 5/8 so not large, not small. They both have very little (or none at all) hone wear, and the edges haven't been touched in who knows how long. If you think I'll be ok, my choice is made!!

    Thanks!!!

I cut a set of Norton's lengthwise back when I had the "Narrow Hone" is good for warped and smiling blade mis-information and did it with 3 cheapo hacksaw blades and some muscle

If there is only little honewear, than it will hone up nicely imo. I have only honed two of them, but they were very nice razors, and honed up fast.
