Thread: EDC Knife

Swiss Army Knife sans cork screw. The red scales help me rediscover it when I have entrusted to one of the myriad of safe and secure storage places I seem to be able to so easily find.

Sog Flash II AO, an eye brand folder and a little custom fixed blade.
I know, I'm crazy!

99% of the time I have my Leatherman Charge TTi on my belt and an Emerson Commander in my pocket.

The knife goes with me 100% of the time. I only take it out if I'm going into a federal building or something. I love that knife. I won't make it three steps out the door before recognizing something is wrong if I've forgotten it.

Emerson CQC-7B with wave opener. I don't leave the house without it. If I travel it's in my checked baggage.

Ok, so nobody will believe me but my father's a knife collector, so I've been around pocket knives as far back as my memory serves.

Current pocket collection:

Chris Reeve Mnandi in Mammoth Bone - so nice that I haven't used it but once.

so I added to my pocket:

Mike Alsdorf single bladed slipjoint - this is what I *use* (though I'm not a fan of slipjoints, Mike is an up and comer in custom knife making and this is just an outstanding example of what a good knife maker can make!)

and because I can:

a one-of-a-kind - as in the pattern was destroyed - single bladed Tony Bose Peanut slipjoint. This one actually sort of scares me... it's unbelievably nice and you will not find another that Tony Bose made like it.

Ok. That Tony Bose is actually my father's.... he left it at the office today and didn't want it left there overnight so he asked me to bring it home and then return it to him tomorrow. My very first knife (that I bought for myself) was the CQC-7B. Wonderful little knife that had such a good heart. It tried to cut through anything I threw at it and then tragically, I lost it somewhere in the Gila National Forrest.

Promptly replaced though.

How do you like the wave feature?

I find that most of the time I barely use it. More often than not I just flick the knife open with my wrist. The wave feature has probably been more of a nuisance to me than useful. I'll probably get my next Emerson without it if it's an option.

That ECBF CQC-13 is begging me to buy it. As is the CQC-15

I carry a Spyderco Military. FWIW Mark (JMS) has the nicest collection of classic style pocket knives of anyone that I have seen, and I assume he gets a lot of use out of them on his ranch that he was kind enough to let me visit.

I just discovered mine is a tactical folder. Never knew what that meant.

The Spyderco Delica is always clipped to my right pocket.
For me it's the best knife:

a) the clip means I always know where it is, and I can take it out with 1 hand.
b) I can open it with 1 hand while I am holding something.
c) I can close it and put it away with 1 hand
d) ATS55 stainless steel and plastic -> very low wear, and no problems with moisture etc.
d) the size is just right. It fits my hand, and it is small enough that it is not immediately regarded as a weapon.


Europe is kinda intolerant to weapons, and carrying a knife is a bit of a grey area. If I were to carry this on a social event, it would probably confiscated as a weapon upon inspection, whereas a swiss army knife with the same blade length wouldn't be looked at twice.

you should have added a box cutter to the list. I never go anywhere without ny kobalt folding box cutter. When its dull or a blade breaks I just put in another
