I havent done it, but it doesn't look too hard, but does require some skill and patience, it might be best to not try on your good razor, you can get a gold dollar for a few pounds on eBay, though any crappy cheap razor would do, you will also need some rod to pin it with, some washers, and the scales and if you are replacing it a new wedge.
There are a heap of threads in the workshop forum about it.
What's wrong with the scales on it?
Nothing wrong with them, my curious mind wandered, and my razor hasn't arrived yet, being processed in Romania(Clus) as we speak.

What sort of thing were you thinking? There is a pdf with a whole load of templates for original vintage razor scales, you can also buy them from the bay, or just design your own. I have been toying with the idea too, but don't want to start on that dangerous spiral.

If we had curators with a lot of time I think that the useful threads could be turned into mini articles for the
wiki, but it would be a job and a half. And the thread would have to get closed to stop more being added to it, which would just mean someone else would start a new thread about it, which would descend into breezeshooting, which would get closed and added to the original article or turned into a new one, ad infinatum.
Anyway dont you want to be in the threadiverters (the name I came up with for our club)
Pixelfixed said that and from I said it is once the question is answered. After that your just repeating yourself so why not have a chat. As if your going to stay on topic. The topic is what your speaking about isn't it

I love the idea of making my own scales, would make my razor that much more an expression of me, any idea where i can find the pdf? Scales section of the forum?

All purpose or just a thread that Mick and I are involved in, you decide..
Well I should get a few extra shaves out of my noggin than I do my face. It isn't your hair that's dense either, I think it might be your 'ed Ed Actually truth be told I have just as many bald spots in my beard as I do on my head. Yep. Just one small patch on the top...I call it thinning though Don't know what my eards problem is, but I couldn't be bothered to grow one (except the G & M) anyway, since it's more fun shaving it off.

You know, you should talk to the fish, they make their own scales...Well most of 'em anyway. Pretty good at it too! I haven't tried it yet, but I don't think it would be too hard. Getting the balance right would be the trickiest bit.

Here's set I made from Welsh Holm Oak and Welsh yew, the tree was struck by lightening and had to be felled I was told the tree was over 600 years old, and we all know Yew trees can be even older, they are found in every Welsh graveyard I've ever been in, they were pre Christian and part of Celtic mythology they were thought to protect the Celtic spirit from evil and guide him or her safely to the spirit world.

There's a lot of yew, oak and willow where I'm from, I'm half tempted to see if i can muster up something from a willow branch...

As long as the wood as been seasoned correctly and you apply a good wax coating and wipe them over regular they should last, always try to keep your pivot pin clean and dry it's the last place you want to get water or moisture trapped.

What would the typical cleaning process be? When making scales from any sort of wood.
