Thanked: 0Hi my name is Camacho, I'm pretty new to straight razors. Been shaving for about a month and had so much fun on my first shave that I went crazy for all that is straight razor shaving. I've been reading the forums for about a month but just joined about 3 days ago cause I saw the Xmas give away . I'm glad to be able to find more straight razor junkies like me and hope to make some friends. I don't think my gf can take much more of me talking about shaving :P.

Thanked: 1Hello
Hello,
My name is Vernon, I am from St.Louis, MO. I am a cook by trade. I have many reasons for straight shaving. One of the biggest is my OCD for a sharp edge. I hone all my knives I use for work, but honestly it is not productive to put a razors edge on a kitchen knife. So i turned to straight razors for satisfaction. Unfortunately I only need to shave once every 10 days or so. I have had skin issues but thanks to these forums I can get a decent shave without much irritation. My only propblem spot is my neck. The hair grows from my left to right and its very difficult to get a good angle for a smooth shave. Other than that i am enjoying the experience and the peace I get from using a straight. I think it just really makes me slow down and is quite relaxing. Thanks to everyone who posts and shares on this site daily. The info you find here is amazing. I just wish I had time to log on more often.

Thanked: 1Im Steven and Im new here. Im in my mid twenties somewhere and live in S. Florida. Im a future Ducati factory Motogp team technician. Eventhough Ive never been to school for it.(yes, I have a long way to go!)
Never have I used a straight razor, but Im expecting one tomorrow(along with a strop and balsa wood hone) from a member of this site. I look forward to using it, and trying out my homemade(with a recipe I got here)shaving soap.
Ive spent a few hours reading a lot of the info on this site and Im learning a lot. Thank you all.

Thanked: 0Just another shave junkie
My name is Mark - got back into shaving the proper way after about a 20 year hiatus, and have already developed a horrible case of RAD - just can't seem to stay off the bay and the classifieds here trolling for more tools for whisker whacking! Cannot begin to tell everyone here how much I appreciate the useful info and razor porn available on SRP!

Thanked: 0Hello World
Hey, I'm Charles
I Got my razor in the mail today.
I read this website about a month ago and decided to report the results and my setup as a broke College Student.
Hone: 600 grit Sandpaper
Razor: Gold Dollar
Strop: Inside of a box of Honey Bunches of Oats.
I made 20 or so passes on the sand paper, until the edge looked clean ( to the naked eye ). It passed TNT, and THT, It sings.
I took a shower and used the Gillete Fusion shaving gel crap that came with the last box of razors I bought (Crap tastic)
Results of My first shave:
Pretty good, about as good as I got with a Mach 3000 without visible redness and iritation from my skin being scraped off in layers.
It took me about 25 minutes which may be a long time, but I really didn't want to cut my face off tonight, and it took me a while to get used to the idea of having a blade that sharp so close to my adams apple. I'm androgynous enough looking as it is, I certainly didn't want a tracheal shave.
I nicked myself about 3 times, but in places I have trouble with using a safety razor. Aftershaved with witch hazel, first then some Osage Rub
Conclusion: I'm Glad I dropped $6 on a straight razor, hell of a lot cheaper than a new pack of gillete fission reactor extreme ++ blades.
