I don't think it would be too difficult to make Loon. It is just a leather covered book with a "handle' and a "tag" added. I would look into bookbinding for book construction and materials, then you just , more or less, apply a thin leather cover much like you would apply 'contact' to an exercise book for school, remembering that you need to sew in a tea handle and tea tag.
