Sitting at a local bar ordered a macallan 18 neat pleasant but not interesting. I have come to realize older whisky seems to lose some of the things it used to have kind of like life cheers

Thanked: 32Eagle Rare 10 is around $25 here and I think it's very much worth that. I'm not talking about the unobtainable ER 17.
Haven't heard that, but I would be pretty disappointed if they did. I was pretty annoyed when the $40 Elijah Craig 18 was "discontinued" and re-released as EJ 21 for $140 or 23 for $200.
Last night was my first taste of Old Weller. Really long lingering sweetness and rich flavor. Almost a dessert bourbon in my mind. Perfectly drinkable at 107 proof for me. Maybe a little hot for a beginner.

Thanked: 4I had some Tomintoul 10 lying around. I usually drink whisky neat, but I don't drink that kind of substandard whisky myself so I decided to make a cocktail out of it. I tried "the old fashioned" for the first time ever and I must say that I was positively surprised. I highly recommend making mixed cocktails from any poor or otherwise leftover whiskies you wouldn't drink yourselves.
Anyway I am quite cockeyed now so I will be heading to bed. Hopefully I won't have too bad of a hangover when shaving tomorrow.

Thanked: 36I like the sound of an old fashioned and some other whisky cocktails, but I don't usually buy whisky I'd be willing to sacrifice for the experiment. Some of the recipes I've seen sound a bit weird, like one I just ready for something called a "Sporran Breeze". I can't help thinking whisky and ginger ale would be a nice combination, but like I said, I don't have any whisky I'd be willing to try it with. I might pick up a miniature of something cheap at some point. Anyone else tried any whisky cocktails?

Thanked: 36I had a question while we're on American whiskey. I think it might have come up before, but here it is: I heard that the US law is that whiskey bottled in America isn't allowed to have caramel colouring added, but companies will transport it to canada or mexico or wherever for bottling so they can add colouring. The statement "bottled in America" on the label therefore means "no colouring added". Does anyone know if that's true?
