Try it with a twist lol at least i wont run out of aftershave for a while.
I'd love to try moonshine one day. Sadly none of the commercial ones are available in Norway, although I'm told there are a few farmers around who do something secret in the barn. I'm still on Longrow for now.

Home distilled moonshine usually has some character this commercial stuff is very neutral not unlike a vodka or some jenevers just tastes of spirit not missing much.

Agreed, in the Appalachian hills of Tennessee I used to be able to get large jars of the backyard stuff with some regularity. While it burned more than any alcohol I've ever tried, it did have some character to it.

Have a glass of The MacAllan cask strength in my hand, the first one is tough but the next two will be smooth as silk. You have to splash some water in the cask strength...that is one stiff Scotch. My favorite is The MacAllan 15. If it wasn't snowing I'd pair it up with a cigar this afternoon on the back deck.

Thank, that makes me feel a little better.

I had a drop more Longrow when I got back from work this morning. It's got some complex flavours I can't quite identify, along with apple, grit stone, earthy peat, wood smoke and swiss chocolate. very good stuff, but probably not a beginners whisky.

This morning I overheard the hotel director telling the restaurant manager he wanted there to be single malt whisky in the hotel bar, so I offered to give some recommendations. I figured something from each region might be good, and also not too expensive. I suggested Lagavulin, glenmorangie, glenkinchie, glenlivet and springbank. Also glenfiddich just because it's so well known and people might buy it for that reason, and teachers of johnny walker for a cheap blend. Any thoughts? Any other suggestions?

Having a whisky that represents each region is a good idea. The Lagavulin and Glenmorangie are solid choices. I personally prefer Macallan over the Glens but I understand your reasoning. Highland Park might be a good one to include.

I am still a great fan of GLENLIVET ................

I remember an "All in the Family" episode where Archie dug an empty Pinch bottle out of the trash and filled it with cheapo scotch to impress his boss. Ha!

I almost included talisker and aberlour as well, but I didn't want to overwhelm the restaurant manager. I don't think she knows whisky at all. I'm thinking aberlour might have been a better choice for a speyside, but not really sure.

As far as the blends go in that hotel bar i guess Johnny Walker is a necessary evil a company too strong to be ignored. But teachers can easily be replaced by Black and White , Cutty Sark or Chivas . Im no fan of teachers but the bar business is all about me isnt it lol.
