No it isn't very peaty at all, perhaps the guy that sold it to my wife and I (I presume it was the same guy) was thinking of Ledaig.
It was quite nice but now I want to compare it to the Ledaig, which I will have to find before I manage to finish this off
I don't think the two are comparable in that sense. They're too different. I think both are outstanding for the money.

I get a distinct note of plums (or plum flavoured sweets) from the Tobermory and I reckon it's one of my favourites, of that type.

I didn't taste any plums! I will have to have another dram tonight, just to make sure
On a more serious but non scotch note (though still bevy related)
I had a bottle of this tonight with dinner, I got it at the National Air Force Museum of Canada, A dollar of every bottle goes to wounded warriors canada. A good charity.

It was a blend of Gamay, Syrah and Pinot Noir but the Gamay was definitely the main force in this wine. Went quite well with the Argentinian Farmers Stew we had.
Well off to pour myself a dram

    *edit*
I'm getting some spice and just a hint of smoke, no plums.

I'm glad you liked it. Actually, if I recall correctly, I don't think Tobermory is peated at all. Ledaig isn't as "peaty" as an Ardbeg 10 or Laphroaig 10. I would be happy to have both Tobermory and Ledaig in my cabinet.

Got a bottle of Ardbeg 10 and a bottle of Talisker Storm and I'm alternating between drams. I like the Storm better, but they're both excellent.

I hit the jackpot this Christmas: I got 1 bottle each of Laphroiag Quarter Cask, Balvennie Doublewood 12, Macallan 12, and Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve. All are excellent in very different ways, for different times and moods. I will need to practice discipline in the coming year, obviously!

That is a jackpot! I tried the Balvenie Doublewood 12 two nights ago for the first time. Loved it. I have to give it some more attention but I could see it as being one of my top most favorites. Such a rich nose and great balance of flavor. Enjoy!

As much as I likes me some peat smoke now and then, if Balvenie Doublewood was heavily peated, so much of the richness of that whisky would be masked. No way would I be able to fully separate the peat and appreciate the full complexity of the Doublewood as it is. Interesting stuff.

Nice. I assume you've had the Laphroaig 10 as well? If so, how do you compare that with the Ardbeg 10? I have both and find they are very different other than the difference in ABV. When I bring Ardbeg 10 down to the same ABV as the Laphroaig 10 to compare, to me Ardbeg 10 is a very "bright" whisky, treble if you will, under the smoke; whereas Laphroaig 10 is very bass under the smoke. Don't know if that makes sense. I really pick up the bourbon notes in the Laphroaig 10. Ardbeg 10 for me under the smoke is much more fruity. Both good.

Yeah, I'm still warming up to the DW12. With most good single malts, I find as many others do that it takes me a few drams to decide whether or not I like it, whereas I've always loved the Macallan-it was my first "serious" single malt, and I remain a lover of the sherry and other more exotic cask finishes (like Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban). But yeah, as much as I love the complex and bold peatiness, smoke and iodine of the Islays like Laphroiag (with Laga 16 my all-time fave!), you don't want that every night. Variety and all.

For what it's worth, my wife and I are touring the UK next summer, and I'm definitely going to do at least a few stops on the Whisky Trail, especially in the Speyside region where so many are concentrated.

That's good to hear. I love Ardbeg 10, but I'd heard Talisker Storm was a little below standard. I'm thinking I'll give it a try now.

We have had a few drams together over the years and he is a great guy.
