Thanked: 2284You guys need to try Tap 40 if you like 100% Ryes. Affordable, and very spicy.

Thanked: 36I just searched on the vinmonopolet website and we don't seem to have it in Norway. Any other rye recommendations?

If you can find it James E. Pepper 1776 Rye is about the best rye that I've ever tried.
Cheers!

Thanked: 36We don't have Lot 40 or James E Pepper here, but it looks like woodford reserve is available here. I'll give it a try one day.
I was drinking bells yesterday as part of a series I'm doing on cheap blended whiskies. My notes include things like stagnant pond, wet cardboard and burning plastic, but in all fairness the nose has much more to it than I was expecting. Spoiler alert: I won't be buying it again.

I purchased this a few months ago, I decided to try it on a whim, turned out pretty smooth and not too shabby for the price.
Why doesn't the taco truck drive around the neighborhood selling tacos & margaritas???

Thanked: 1936I concur, TC Rides turned me onto it and I just finished another bottle. Really hard to beat, but I am not an expert. If there is anything better for the price in a whisky/bourbon I am game! I can't drink carbonated any more and am trying to learn a new "drink". So far, I have yet to find a better whisky/bourbon (for me) than Woodford Reserve on the rocks.

Thanked: 2284Just getting over another cold, so decided to have a dram from a local Distillery. Only about an hour from here, Dillon's distillery has been producing Vodkas, flavoured gins, bitters, Absinthe, and just last year they released their first Rye Whiskey that was Cask strength! Talk about an introduction. I missed that one, but made sure I got a bottle of this years release which is 100% Ontario Rye ( 90% unmalted, 10% malted) aged for 4 year in 3 types of barrels. New Ontario oak, New American oak, and first fill ex Bourbon. Bottled at 43% ABV.
I sure hope they stuck some of this away for longer ageing. They sure seem like they have a good grasp on how to make spirits.
What I get on the nose is a ton of Rye bread, and I mean good rye bread. Makes me want a corn beef sandwich! Very light on the mouth, sweet and spicy, but young. If it had another few years I think this would be exceptional. You can taste all of the 43%. Maybe some air oxidation might help this one.
