Awesome! I'd love to have a taste of Octomore. How much did you pay for that? It's about 150 quid in Norway.

It's a really good and quite unique bottle. It's not mine but it's £99 off master of malt. Very feisty at near enough 60% and aged only 5 years, however, it's also surprisingly sweet and approachable. Packs a nice punch if you try it neat; I ended up with three teaspoons of water in that small glass and it still had a nice edge to it. Needless to say, it's very peaty.

This is the cheapest of the Octomore offerings - I'd love to try some of the others if or when I have the spare cash - but I'd definitely recommend it if you enjoy peated whisky.

I'd 100% buy this over an Ardbeg Dark Cove, which I'll expand on tomorrow.

Makes me keen to try a bruichladdich and a port Charlotte now.

I still need to report on my Aultmore, as I did say I would.

I half think I've got a miniature of 26 year old Port Charlotte in my cupboard, but I might be mixing it up with something else. I used to get miniatures from my parents when I lived in England but they can't send them to me now because the Norwegian alcohol laws are too strict. I'd have to declare things and pay taxes and fees and all kinds of things. The only Bruichladdich I've tried was laddie ten that I was given a few years ago, that was really good but it's not available in Norway at the moment.

Would you recommend the laddie 10? It's about £70 here but I do have my eye on a bottle

Single barrel JD 95% of the time. Old No. 7 the other 5%( when friends come over).

I just wish I could 'pull the trigger' on a single barrel. Maybe that'll be my retirement present to myself.

I like Gentleman Jack on the rocks with friends. My Scotch is neat and normally after a nightly straight shave. Too bad I quit smoking....

I would recommend it, but not sure it's worth quite that much. I was given a bottle about 5 years ago and it was very good. Very interesting to try an unpeated Isley. Lot's of interesting herby, vegetal notes as I recall. I'd definitely pay £70 in Norway (bell's is £30 here if that's a helpful price reference), but not sure about paying that much in UK although I see master of malt currently have it at £58, which is probably worth it.

Oh, well maybe I'm getting myself mixed up with something else. I thought it was more.
