A couple of additional suggestions (under 5 bucks each): Nivea Arctic Freeze after-shave gel (excellent) and Aqua Velva Blue (an oldie but goodie)

Both Walmart, I might add.
Alamo,
Equally important(perhaps more) is learning to strop. Do you have a strop yet? Here's a link to a thread that is vid heavy with *many* examples of stropping: http://straightrazorpalace.com/strop...ght=Stroptober
Incorrectly stropping will ruin your edge in the blink of an eye. The founder of this site, Lynn Abrams and a few others like gssixgun have a great many videos to watch as well.
Time to go down the rabbit hole. Awesome exciting time when just starting out. It just seems to get better and better! Enjoy your journey and ask lots and lots of questions. The folks here... best on the net.

Thanked: 39Aqueous cream hydrates skin well and is cheap as anything. Mix in some essential oils and it'll smell nice - lavender and tea tree will make it slightly antiseptic which is a plus.

Thanked: 0I do have strops, and as a knife guy and a leatherworker, I'm confident in my stropping skills
Looking very much forward to getting hooked in the hobby of wet shaving! My razor just came in, so now I'm polishing it and will then go give it an edge once it's all nice, clean, and shiny!

I throw out there you can use olive oil as a good after shave if your skin can handle it.
Also if you are planing on honing your own first razor I hope you read up on honing a razor. It is different from sharpening a knife.

Thanked: 0I've done my research and I think I have a general idea of what I need to do. Will be sure to post results when I'm done.

Welcome to the forum.
There have been threads on homemade aftershave, you might find something useful there.

Then it's time to lay down and wait for it to pass.

You can get virgin coconut oil from Walmart as well (in the cooking oils/spices section). It works great as a preshave oil and post shave moisturizer. You get a decent size jar for 7-10 dollars that will last you months!

Thanked: 3795You can make a very cheap but very effective aftershave by combining the following.
1 part Cornhusker's lotion
1 part aloe
2 (or more--dilute to your own preference) parts Thayer's witch hazel (preferably, in my opinion, without alcohol)
Personally, I avoid Walmart like the plague but I would assume that first two components can be found there. I have no idea if witch hazel is available there.

Escential Lotions & Oils: Perfume, Aromatherapy, Essential, and Massage Oils, Skin Care and Gifts since 1979
Inexpensive.. Great stuff can add any scent you want to it.. Don't need a car to get it.. They ship it right to you for under 10 bucks.. All the ingredients are of top quality.. IMO better than Nivea.. Also look for Burt's bees after shave balm.. I think it's around 7 to 8 bucks., should b in Walmart.. It's a ill greasy but it does wonders..
