Don't forget VDH glycerin soap. Good for sensitive skin and under $2 just about everywhere. If you live in an area where there is a Bi-Mart, they carry it. I like their brush also (and inexpensive.) I swear by the Nivea and to cut costs keep checking the Sunday paper for coupons for Nivea products.

I used a vitamin e based moisturising cream for quite a while, it was very good as the vitamin e helps your skin to heal, or so i was told.
I am trying to run down some of the assorted products i have, but once in need of some more balm i will get vit e cream over nivea.
I also used to use a bit pre shave, it seemed to help.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

VDh soap will get the job done, as will col conk. if you are looking at some other budget products, a few solid contenders are: Ingrams cream, arko soaps and creams, Palmolive menthol cream, Palmolive soap.
In terms of aftershaves, I'll agree with several others that generic witch hazel will get the job done, as will store brand aqua velva.

+ 1 on generic witch hazel. It's been around for 100s of years and is a natural astringent/calmer. You'll find a choice of with or without alcohol.

Thanked: 3795You can get an aloe plant and cut one leaf off at a time. Break/cut off a half to three quarter inch piece off of it after each shave, crush it to split it open, and rub the interior contents (aloe) onto your face.
I do this after rinsing off alum and prior to applying aftershave. I've been using the same aloe plant this way for nearly 15 years, so it works out to being very cheap.

I have always liked Gillette Afta which is pretty affordable. I like the original. It soothes and conditions and makes a good 'primer' for other a/s. I AM going to try Utopian's Aloe plant thing! I have a big one!

Thanked: 3795It's great to have a houseplant that contributes something. Just a warning: the first cut will leak a little and there will be a little bit of green residue. Because of that I always prop up the fresh leaf into a vertical position. With all subsequent cuts of that leaf, it will not drip so you should be able to store it horizontally on a counter or shelf.

Well, it does do wonders for burns and sunburn. Good thing to try!

Thanked: 0Would highly recommend Aqua Velva SPORT edition (green bottle). Incredible scent and great feeling. Sometimes the classics are the way to go!
